i just picked up a second HR20 for the bedroom (to replace my HR10) and i noticed the other night it had this amient hum/vibration noise coming from it... i got out of bed and put some slight downward pressure with my fingers on the top-front of the unit and the noise went away. a few seconds later it started again... i pressed down a bit harder and it seemed to resolve it... anyone else have this happen?

Yes it does happen. I have wedged a folded piece of cardboard under the center front of mine. It seems to be something about the feet of the HR20 being hard rubber or plastic and the wood surface many of us have them place on. After I "replaced" the front feet with my wedged cardboard, mine has been quiet.

You might try putting some foam rubber or packing material under each of the feet to help isolate the case and quiet things down a bit.

It happened with me on my new black HR20-100, and I just "layed hand" on it and it was healed.

My R15 does it too. I placed a DVD tv series box set (whichever one I am currently watching) on top of it and it disappeared.

Big problem with my fairly new non-HD DVR (R15?). Not as bad with the HR20.

I also found that the hard drive on my R15 (?) was starting to cause noise on my stereo's subwoofer all the time, but now that I moved the R15 upstairs I'm not going to worry about it. Off-topic, but it just came to mind.

Had the same problem. Just take a couple of dirty socks and put one under each leg on the HR20. It will get rid of the hum, but may change the fragrance of your room
