Lady T - THANK YOU !!!! I'm sure you've noticed that a bunch of us go from place to place, trying to help out problems from other users.
You might also want to pass this at www.dbsforums.com (Technical support forum) and probably the DBS forum at www.avsforum.com

The benefits from the DishPro Technology are:
Longer cable runs(due to the higher voltage output)
Dual sat signals on one cable
More options for trunking to multiple receivers.
It is important to make absolutely clear to all the due-it-yourselfers on this board that if you have a DishPro system, every piece of equipment(i.e. cable, ground blocks, f-connectors) are swept tested to at least 2.2 Ghz or more. The Belden cable I am using these days is swept tested all the way up to 2.4 Ghz.:eek2:
Please take care and use the rated stuff or risk frying your receivers, switches, etc.
Have fun!!!

Thank you very much, LadyTalia! That's really good information to know, and hopefully will keep users from destroying their older equipment! In fact, I think this is important enough to make it a sticky thread for awhile.

For those of you that desire the more technical info, legacy LNBs only need between 13-18 volts to run. DishPro components require almost 20 volts to operate (about 19.7 volts to be exact).
You wouldn't think that 2 volts would make much difference, but the highest a legacy lnb can tolerate is 18 volts, period.
Have fun

Any news on the Legacy to DishPro convertors? It seems Dish is awfully slow getting these to market.
Thanks.

They're out there - at least they are listed on web-retailers sites. Now, there may be a limited supply of them, or some other supply chain snafu..

I've got this great mental picture of a dual lnb exploding... plastic everywhere!

I got a few notes from Echostar about this, it seems as though this is false. I guess there was a problem however that problem was fixed within a week of them noticing the problem via a software update.
Also I am hearing everyone is going to REALLY like the next software release for the 721. :)

Scott, any news on exactly WHEN we are going to get a chance to like it? :)

You are not the only one SParker! :)
From the sounds of things they have a few suprises for us in store!
LadyTalia Im not disagreeing with what you have reported (I have seen a service bulletin from one of the Echostar Distribution centers that said the same thing) However from what I am now told this problem is now fixed.
BTW does anyone know of any good Linux based games?

Well I was going to upgrade to a mixed legacy pro system but given the warning decuided to stick to legacy for now.
Wait 2 DIFFERENT 500 dishes, one legacy with SW64 and a seperate on Pro with 3 to 4 switch. Both with 61.5 dishes.
Given the chance of confusion I will delay that till more of my receivers are pro or all have the adapters...
Too easy to fry that 64:(

Yeah one day I would move something and ZAP, a dead SW64:(
Oh well its not a biggie, better to put my limited funds in PVRs anyway...

I heard from a reliable source that athough early on this could of been a issue it has been corrected. The first switch test looks at the LNB and decides if its a pro or not. The software prevents damage.
I decided to continue my PVR upgrades and leave the pro upgrade till later.
