First, an introduction. I'm a new DIRECTV customer. Installation was completed on 5/2/2007 in my house near Washington, D.C. in Maryland. I have the 5 LNB Dish with two HD and two Standard receivers. Installation took much longer than expected but the installers did an excellent job and made sure everything was working properly before leaving for the next job. The biggest issue was receiver setup. On one HD receiver they couldn't get it to recognize 3 of the 5 satellites. I left the room for a few minutes after an hour of struggling, changing boxes, calling in to tech support etc. When I got back they somehow got it to work. I'm not sure what they did. My question is this - I understand how to get to the signal strength screen. Is there a guide somewhere that will tell me which stations are being broadcast on which transponders on each satellite ? How can I tell if it's appropriate to have a signal strength of 0 on a particular transponder ? I realize that some transponders are "spot beams" and I may not receive a signal from them.

Thanks !

To answer your channel question..no
Some transponder aren't used so a zero [or two] doesn't mean anything.
For the 99 & 103 SATs they are all spot beams right now.
D* will change transponders as needed to keep everything working.
The HD receivers won't show all of the power/transponders/SATs as the HD DVRs do because of older software than the DVR.

You can see what channels are beamed from each satellite here ....
http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/america.html

Transponder info is a bit tougher to come by, and it can change frequently. This site is rather out-of-date now ....

BTW..The Lyngsat page doesn't have updated HD locals info for 103. For example, Harrisburg, PA went local in early March but still aren't listed anywhere on this site.

Not 100% updated, but gives you an idea of what's on each Sat. Phoenix HD's missing also.

I've been looking for this post. I saw it before but took me a while to track it back down. Greensboro,NC also is not listed.

Transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26, & 28 on 101 are spots. Transponders 25, 27, 29, & 31 on 119 are spots. As stated before, since D* shifts channels from transponder to transponder on a regular basis, it's impossible to have a list.
