View Full Version : Can't set up SL for show in search
This morning, I decided to try to set up Series links on two shows that do their first run during the summer months, The Closer and The 4400.
So, I went to search, found the Closer on TNT in the listing, highlighted it and hit OK, thinking that since it was in the search list, I could set up a series link. Instead the HR20 searched for the program, trying to find an upcoming episode, but obviously could not, since it doesn't start for about 4 weeks.
However, even though the show shows up in the search list, I couldn't find a way to set it up for a series link. Is there a way to do that that I'm missing, or is this just another bug in the way that the HR20 handles the guide and programming of the unit?
Thanks for any insight.

When searching for a show and there is no new episodes but it does find a repeat episode you can click on that episode and set a series link. By doing that it will record that one repeat episode even if you click on new only. But it will not record any other repeat episodes.

Thanks... the problem is that it shows up in the search, but can't find anything in the program listing. I let it search for about 5 minutes and nothing came up.
I feel that if it shows up in the search, we should be able to easily set up a series link, regardless of upcoming episodes (new or rerun). Just one man's opinion.

Where is it showing up? It normally only comes up with the results if it finds your search.

When you find something in a search, highlight the one you want and hit the record button twice. Done, series link is created. :)

Thanks, I'll give that a try later tonite! :D

It shows up on the search screen, but then when I hit the select button it just keeps searching and searching the program guide for an episode.

Yep, the HR20 uses "one touch record".
Press once to do a one time record.
Twice for a series link.
Even better in seeing this power is to pull up the guide and go to HBO for example.
Then push the left button so the channel number is highlighed.
Hit the Info button.
It will load up the entire 2 week guide for HBO. Now just one button record all the movies you want. I can schedule 10 movies in just a minute or so this way. :D
I also used a similar method to setup all my network series links when I first got it.
Pull up the guide and go to where your locals are, hit menu and choose "date and time".
Set it to tonight at 8pm.
Now just hit record twice on all the programs you want a series link for.
Now hit the green button twice and it should not be 24 hours ahead.
One touch record again anything you want.
Continue for all 7 days of the week. In less then 5 minutes you can setup a couple dozen series links for your favorite prime time programs.
Have fun!

Did that this evening, and what it set the series link up for is the show that was on TV, not the one I had in the search window.
Guess I'll have to wait for the show to show up in the episode guide. :nono2:

When you setup a series link it will only schedule the first episodes right away, the rest get scheduled over the next few hours in the background.

Bonscott... that was notthe issue. The issue was that a show shows up when I search by title, but can't find any episodes, hence will not let me set up a SL for the show.
So, I have to wait until about 2 weeks before the show is scheduled to premier (or until there's at least a re-run of that show) so that it can find an episode so I can set up a series link.
I know how to set them up, I was just surprised that it could not be set up from the search screen when the title was found and required that an episode be in the guide for the link to be set up.

Ahhh, ok. That's no different then Tivo actually. There has to be an episode to create the series link/season pass off of.
 That doesn't really make sense, though, since wouldn't a program only show up in a title search if there was an upcoming program anytime in the next 13-14 days?
Does the HR20 retain "yesterday's" guide data? If so, the only way I see Search showing a title but not permitting it to be recorded is if that program was already on (that is, it was on yesterday) and it's not on again in the next 13-14 days. The Search results show the program, but there's no way the DVR can record it. If this is the situation, I would say there's a bug in the Search by Title feature where it doesn't hide "yesterday's" programs from the results.
Anyway, to the OP: Have you tried doing a search on TitanTV to see other times for the program? TitanTV.com is a great program listing site, permitting display of programs for the next two weeks AND yesterday. (Free registration is required.)

Drew... haven't tried that, but I will.
Tried Titan TV.... no listing for the closer, but it still shows up in my search.
