I want to cancel my HD Access (for now at least) since the only HD programming I watch is OTA and these come in fine for me. I know D* will be adding more channels in the future and I might change as a result down the line.
The question is: can the HR20-700 still record HD OTA if I were to cancel the HD Access? I am at the end of my free introductory period (4 months free HD Access--initially got receiver in late January, 2007).

The receiver needs to be on an active account, but that's it, so you should be fine.

I thought is was changed to if you any HD equipment on your account you have to have the HD package. If that is not correct please let me know.

Yes it can.
If available, your locals in MPEG-4 will remain as well even if you don't subscribe to the HD package.

No, that is not correct. I have the HD package now but went without it for a few months without penalty awhile back.

OK. Thanks for the correction. I thought I heard when the price changes back in March happened they change that if you had HD equipment you had to have the HD package.

Thanks. I was under the impression that I could cancel the HD Access when I got the receiver since what I really wanted was to record HD OTA programming. I just can't recall whether I specifically asked this or not and I am just preparing myself for when I call D*.

As of March 1, 2007 you are not "supposed" to be able to cancel it if your receiver was activated after that date. However, that is not to say that others have not done so successfully.

Well I may be providing wrong info.
In early March I was running my HR-20 without the HD package. Around March 20th, I upgraded to an HD package (what I've had since) and haven't downgraded yet so I may have missed the fine print when I resubscribed to the HD package.
I originally downgraded/upgraded online, not through a CSR.

To close the loop, I was able to cancel the HD Access and I still have the ability to record HD OTA. D* gave me no problems with this request.
