Has anyone tried to configure their directv receiver to a zip code they DON'T live in? I wonder if setting the zip to a different geographic area would provide you with local programming from that area...i.e. local sports. Or is the setup tied in to your account info so that the receiver zip must match the account zip?

I realize that I could just repeat the setup and try this myself...but I'd rather see if anyone has tried this in the past.

The programming you receive is based on the physical address on your account, and has nothing to do with the zip code you enter in the reciever. That zip code is only used to calculate the direction you need to point your dish to get the signal.

I am a full time RVer an travel regularly. As "Kheldar " said the Zip code is strictly for dish direction alignment.

so, if i live in CA, what would be the positives and negatives of a "move" to TX?

Virtually nothing either way. Locals would not come in, because you are way too far outside of the spot beams for Texas to get any of those channels. You always run the risk of getting caught since it isnt legal to do. It IS a form of fraud.
