I'm moving into a house we are building and need to temporarily move into an apartment. Unfortunately they don't allow satellites so I need to suspend my account for 4 months. My question, can I just connect OTA to the HR20 and use the DVR function? I'm assuming I can do so.

It's going to be hard enough not having satellite. I can't imagine also not have a DVR! :eek2:

Bad news...it needs to see the 101 SAT to function.

Plus the newer HD receivers from DirecTV do not function OTA unless activated. My old Hughes E-86 was one of the last ones that could be used OTA only without being activated.

This is what I was fearing. What about with the DirecTV R10? Same issues? I might have to dust off the old VCR for awhile. :(

Did you know that if you have an exclusive use area like a balcony or patio that can receive the signals the FCC forbids regulations prohibiting you from using a satellite (for the most part)? Have you seen the FCC fact sheet? Do a Google search for "fcc satellite regs" and it will be the first result-I'd post the link but I got a few more posts to go before I get that ability.

Thanks, I'll investigate it. The person working the desk stated the owner did not allow them for building aesthetic reasons.
