Off to an ominous start I think....

the first receiver that the installer hooked up was DOA (some HD channels had no video....audio was fine).

On Sunday the episode of The Simpsons I recorded had a strange sound stutter for about 10 seconds in the middle of the show. It was fine when I saw it live (I wasn't really paying attention, but it was on and I'd notice if the sound started stuttering). However, during playback there was a series of dropouts within about a 10 second interval. It wasn't a complete drop-out...more like a series of volume drops...I could still hear the audio but it got quiet then back to normal in rapid succession. However, when I rewound and played again, about half the time, it played through just fine. I'm thinking if anything, its a decoder problem because I WAS able to get normal playback some of the time, but it was strange that when it happened it only happened in this one spot. I've been reading a bunch of posts complaining of audio problems and wondering if I'm going to be replacing my receiver before the end of the week.

blarg,
What are you using for your audio, and how is it connected?

I've had the same issues from day 1. I've replaced the receivers 3 times, with no success. I tried putting a notebook cooler under my unit and that has helped a lot but not eliminated the problem. The software updates have no elimintaed the problem either. I think it's a heat issue with theses boxes. Interestingly enough most people with this problems are from So. Cal.When I get dropouts I get them every few seconds till a hard reboot. I get them on all channels that broadcast 5.1, I also use Optical directly to Harmon Kardon AVR55 receiver. Never any issues when listening to 2 channel audio through optical. First thing I would try is cooling the unit as much as you can. Let me know if you any success.
