I have a Directivo on the main television and I want to activate a seperate reciever in another room. As both signals are going into the directivo, can I split one of the signals going to the Directivo to share with the other reciever? I dont want to "mirror" the signal, I want to watch different programming with the other signal (when the Tivo isnt using the other signal). Any help here? Thanks in advance.

SPLITTERS BETWEEN THE DISH LNB'S AND YOUR TUNER(s) ARE NOT ALLOWED !!!

What you should do is get a 2x4 Multiswitch, take both outputs from the LNB and run them into the Multiswitch. Then run cables from the outputs of the multiswitch to each tuner, with NO SPLITTERS inbetween. If you happen to have an Oval dish, it should come with a 4x4 Multiswitch - same principle - LNB's to MS, MS to each tuner (no splitters).

In your case - suck it up and pull the extra cable to the other room. and buy the appropriate multiswitch (but NOT SPLITTERS).

Sean,

No you cannot 'split' the DBS signal as you would with analog cable. You need a multiswitch (powered if cable runs are over 100'). A recommended mutliswitch brand is Spaun, which is available at www.mini-dishes.com (that's where I got mine)
Install the multiswitch inside your house and all cables from your dish go into that first. Output of multiswitch goes to your Tivo and new recv.
(Switches comes in varing sizes measured by output . (switch w/ four o/p can handle four recv or one Tivo and two regular recv)

Thanks for the help but im not sure I understand the freak out there by scooper. All I want to do is LEGALLY (that is PAY directv the additional reciever fee) actvate another reciever. What the hell does "suck it up" mean? Anyway, HarryD, using your method will I still have 2 signals going into my Directivo?

The SCREAMING is because this question has been asked OVER and OVEr and OVER again - why couldn't you have gone looking in the old posts first ?!?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this. But my question is about the Hughes gcebo reciever. I've been looking into replacing my Rca 485 because of the scolling problem after numerous atempts to get rca to correct it, but to find out the 485 doesen't have enough memory to keep all the data in the detail program guide. Like the movie release date ie (2002). As per RCA csr stated to me by phone . I've been reading around here a bit and it sounds like the Huges gcebo has a few bugs also :( I was curious if any one who has a Hughes could tell me more about it. Good or bad. Thanks!

Sean,

Yes you will (have two lines going to your Tivo). When you install your multiswitch, you'll run your dbs cables from the dish to the input ports of the multiswitch. Then run o/p cables from the multi-switch to your recv (two to the DirecTivo, and one to your new recv) You should still have one o/p port left (providing you buy a 2/4 multiswitch.

This is very similar to installing a cable splitter. Say you had analog cable and wanted to feed four rooms. You buy a 4 way splitter and go to your basement and hook one cable (from the outside) to the input of the spliiter, then one cable in each of the o/ps. In your case, just subsitute a multiswitch where the splitter is)

It's easy

Scooper - give the guy a break! Next time, just don't respond to the post. I don't mind answering these questions. Geez, try some DeCafe!

Crazy dude,

I have the Hughes Director pack but there are two models. I think you're looking at the Executive model (the one w/ the APG) Mine has the MPG and works well. Colorful menus, really fast response time. I think the Executive model is the one w/ the bugs (time is off). Maybe give D* a call and they can straighten this out

Sorry Harry - but these people should learn to look for their question FIRST, then ask if it hasn't been covered. And this is such a basic question, it has been covered MANY times on every DBS forum I go to.

Youre the man HarryD! Thanks. Scooper, is Youngsville near Mayberry? Anyway, im gonna grab that 2/4 multiswitch. Thanks again.

Good luck Sean.. Do you have a place (in the basement?) where you can install the multi-switch? Don't put it outside!

Sean, while some people have had problems, most people who put multiswitches that are designed for outdoor use outside in a relatively sheltered area (including myself) have no problems.

I've seen alot of post on Hughes, but have heard good & bad I was just wondering if its worth dumping my rca 485 rg and sprining the $104.00 for the Hughes. The rca 485rg is not what I expected as for as a quallity  Thanks again, HarryD

Craze,
If you're not happy w/ your RCA, did you say you called them (RCA).. ? What did they say.. no replacement, is it under warranty? Maybe you can finagle a new one.

HarryD, Yes I've contacted RCA and It's already been replaced once for the slow scrolling and movie release date loss . The replacement has the same exact problem. And when I contacted RCA again the CSR told me that replacing it again wouldn't solve the problem , That RCA 485RG doesn't have enough memory in it to keep everything running smoothly so it has to sacrifice some of the data. sound like a inferior product to me. And thats what I told RCA , Thats why I'm looking for something besides RCA. I wouldn't tell anybody to go with RCA.

Wow that stinks. You're money and their design flaw. I almost got an RCA recv but bought the Hughes instead.

Can you at least get your money back? Then take that and go w/ Hughes.

No, I've had it fo over a year now, not the same one of course. But I don't think I could get my money back. Rca is just a bunch of s#*t in my book and told them that too!
