View Full Version : sat 119 gives me all 0's

I noticed a couple HD channels were saying "searching for sat 771". I ran a signal test and everything was normal until I switched to sat 119. It gives me all ZEROs on signal strength. It was working until a few days ago. The trees already had leaves, so nothing all of a sudden started blocking it. It's pretty much wide open sky.
I tried RBR. I tried unplugging the power for 10 minutes. It seems to have started after the last firmware update. It is an HR20-700. I had 145, i think it is 15c now? Could this cause the problem I am having?

Most likely not a software problem.
Do you have other DirecTV Receivers? Do the receive any signal on the 119-deg "SatB" satellite? It could be ...
* loose/corroded cable connection at your dish or multiswitch
* something blocking your dish's view of that satellite
* defective dish LNB
* defective multiswitch
* defective satellite receiver/DVR tuner

Well this is a new install... less than 3 months. I called tech support and they are sending a tech out on Saturday afternoon. I hope this is something simple.
I don't have any other HD receivers. I do have a standard nondvr one, but it seems to be working fine. But then again, a standard receiver doesn't even use 119 does it?
I guess I better write down all my "season passes" in case the tech replaces the hr20-700... i'll need to recreate them all again. What a pain.
Hmm, maybe i'll get a -100 replacement?

It sure does..there are a bunch of channels on the 119 SAT [it's the 110 that is only HD].
I'd use it at the "problem" location just to see what, if anything, changes.

Hmm. Over the phone, he had me try (on the standard receiver) switching to 492 493 494 channels, but I was getting an error... something along the lines of invalid channel. He said it would need to be configured for those channels to work? I dont know what that means.
On the HD receiver, those channels didn't work "searching for signal 771". I believe 495 did work with a "test 5" message.
Anyway, is there a channel you know of that uses 119 that I can test? I know a couple HD channels, but that other receiver is not HD. At least then I would know if it is the HR20 or something else.

Your sd local channels are likely there. What city do you get your sd locals from?

NYC.
I just checked the local channels on the standard receiver, and they work no problem. Then again, the locals work fine on the hr20 also. The local HDs are hit & miss though. As well as HDN DSHD, etc.. I have about 1/2 of the hd channels working... the others say 771.

Can't you go into the setup guide of your "Standard" receiver and see transponder powers?
You could use it to see if it is cable related or receiver [not HD of course].

Duh, that didn't even occur to me. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the idea.

OK, I went to go into view signal strength on that other receiver, but it only gave me an option for one. Sat 101 was the only one listed. No 110 or 119 at all.

You need to reset the dish type on the non-hd receiever to "3 LNB" or "oval dish". It sounds like it is set to "Round dish" at the moment (which only receives from 101).
If you are having trouble getting the NY HD locals, that means you are not getting 99 properly either. The dish may have shifted, or you might have some bad cable.
Either way, the technician should be able to troubleshoot it (hopefully).
