Greetings forum,

I have what I think is a basic question, but I have not found a definitive answer. Currently, I have 3 HD receivers. Two are Hughes HTL-HD's and the other is an HD-Tivo. In order to receive the new HD lineup on all three TV's, do I need to upgrade all three receivers? I am confused because all of the National Geographic HD Sneak Peeks have worked on my receivers. Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, does anyone have any information as to when HD locals will be available in the Richmond, VA DMA?

Yes, you will need a H20 or HR20 receiver to receive the new MPEG4 HD channels. The sneak peeks have been offered in the standard MPEG2 format.

All the new HD channels are planned to be MPEG4, which will not be receivable by your current HD receivers. You will need a 5LNB dish instead of the older Phase III, and you will need H20 receivers in place of your existing receivers, and an HR20 DVR in place of your HR10 to receive any of the new HD channels. The preview is on existing bandwidth in MPEG2, it wont be when it goes live.

Thanks you very much. Now I need to call DTV and find out how much this is going to cost me.

If you can't arrange a deal to get everything at one time (and I wouldn't be surprised if you can't given the recent shortages of receivers), if you can be patient, you might be able to get a couple now and a couple in 6 months.

Cheers,
Tom
