Yes as the HR-20 never really turns off.
If you were to want to turn off just the TV, move the slider over to TV and use the power button just below the slider.
Just press the TV on button in the upper right corner.
Should toggle your TV on or off and leave the HR20 on.

Just press the TV off button in the upper right corner.
That will turn off both my HR-20 & TV.

 I guess I don't get it still, as the upper right buttons [on & off] work both my TV & HR-20, but the power button under the slider will address just what the slider is set to.

If both my TV and the HR20 are on, I can push the "ON" button (upper right corner) and just the TV will shut off. If I push the "ON" button again the TV will turn back on. Strange I know, but it does work thay way on my R15 as well.

My receiver in LR turns on receiver/tv with on/off button. My tv in bedroom turns both receiver/tv on and off by just pressing on button. Hit on button for on and on button to shut off. Strange! Could not program Vizio properly with remote no matter what I tried. Afraid to mess around too much with it. Tried a bunch of codes, no dice!:nono2:

The simple answer is you can't turn off the HR20.. It is always running so it can record your shows.. Off just turns off the outputs and the lights on the front..

"Off" should be renamed "Energy Conservation Mode". ;)

I don't think it conserves much....Just makes people happy to think it is "off"

It definitely uses *some* amount less power. Those LEDs don't light themselves. :D

Sometimes mine seen to...
BTW: I thinks it's two watts between on & off [39/37 watts].
If your DVR is like my SA HD8300HD DVR, it will record in the 'Off" state.
The HDD spins up, records, spins down -- all with the unit "off".
Amazing, but true! :D

I don't know of any DVR that the HDD ever spins down. To my knowledge they all run all the time.

Move the slider at the top of the remote to the TV position. Use the middle PWR button (directly below the slider). Move the slider back to the D* position.
Your HR20 will record regardless if it is "on" or "off". It is always on, off is more of a standby mode. Off shuts off the front panel lights and the outputs on the back, it also allows the box to do some of its housekeeping sooner.

Wouldn't be too hard to try.

The TV ON and OFF button send the same code to the TV (power). If you press ON it is the same as pressing power on your TV's remote, so if your TV is on it will shut it off. It will also send the discrete ON command to the HR20, but if it is already on nothing will happen to the HR20.
This is useful if you pause something and want to return to it later without leaving the TV on.

I vote for "much less blue" mode. ;)
