Okay, so I've got this 20" toshiba TV with component input (somebody else here has a similar model) and there are two settings for the component input.

One setting is called (by Toshiba) DVD and the other setting is called DTV. My DVD player, with component output, works, apropriately enough, with the DVD input.

My question is, what is the DTV input. Or more precisely, what is different between the two? Is one setting interlaced and the other progressive? I don't have anything with progressive output and compatable jacks to test that theory.

DTV, probably means digital TV, not sure if it has anything to do with progrssive/interlace since I doubt there are any 20" TV's out there that are HDTV ready (I could be wrong).
Maybe the manual can offer a little insight??

Not only that, I doubt there's any 20" tvs out there that can handle a progressive signal. I could be wrong, though. I suspect it's just a naming convention that toshiba is using - ie call that input whatever you want.

Yeah, but whats the *difference* between DVD and DTV? It's the same hardware input (RCA-style component jacks). The DVD player has component out which works great with the input (called Colorstream, I think, by Toshiba) with the menu set to DVD. If I set the menu item to DTV--no picture.

What is the difference between DVD and DTV component inputs? (The unit is not advertised as HDTV, and for $300 I'd be surprised if it were.) But the only difference I can think of would be progressive vs interlaced.

Karl, don't you have this same unit??

PS I did just check the manual, and as I recalled, there is no helpful information in it regarding this selection. All it says is, ""You can use either the Colorstream input for connecting the DVD or DTV receiver...Press < or > to highlight DVD or DTV depending on which device is connected."

Is the component output standard for DVD 480i different from the component output for Digital TV 480i?

Howdy,

I have a 24" Toshiba flat-screen and I use the S-video input for my Directv receiver, and the component (blue, red, green) video for the DVD player - yes they call it color stream. They say on the screen for mine Video 1 for the S-Video, and Color Stream for the component video.

The component video input is awesome. I watched Beauty & The Beast and it looked incredible and I don't have a progressive scan DVD player.

yes it does, but I have no idea what the DTV means  and the manual doesn't say. I have mine set for DVD as I have my DVD set up on the component video jacks.
