Called today and set up the "movers program" and had a different expirience than what I have read here recently.

1. No mention of collecting my older legacy units (non-HD, DVR, HDMI, etc...) that I have in use on the account. I still use two of those units for a non-HD set and to sling.

2. Commitment is still one year for the "free" move but after asking I was quoted $199 to opt out.....not the $99 I have seen posted here.

3. "Special offer at this time only...." $99, each, to upgrade the legacy recievers to an H20 -- I laughed and told him if that is what I wanted I would just call him (or retention) in a few months to get another H20 for free since I already pay for the protection plan. I'll go for the HR-20 when the SWM is available.

4. They were able to hook me up with an appointment for TOMORROW though. Options were 8-12 or 12-4. No mention until I asked about a first (6-8) or last appt of the day. He checked the schedule and told me those were filled through June 15.

I told them it will be a slimline install only....no coax beyond the grounding block required, no phone lines, no drilling into my vinyl siding. I'll fish the walls, run coax to each set, etc.....just hang and align the dish with my H-20. I'll do the rest thank you very much.

I picked up some hardware for a sun deck/patio install on a 4x4 support beam and hopefully I won't be seeing Moe, Larry, or Curley in the morning. I really only need the dish, someone expirienced with a 5lnb install, and a meter to align it but the one year commitment was the cheapest route I could find to get the job done.

Local mom and pop did not want the work ($200+/-) and watching the Red Sox in SD on my "camping" setup is getting old fast. I still get some HD but I need NESN!!!!

Besides the Yankees come to town in a few days and seeing their misery in HD will be priceless.

I'll post results ater the install. I'm planning on tipping the installer now but we will see how it goes in the a.m. Hopefully the dish is hung, aigned, and he (she?) is on their way in 60 minutes or less.

Last I heard, the early AM and late PM was only for service calls and upgrades, not installs. I may be wrong though.

I don't understand the $199 opt out fee that they presented to you, as the most you would pay for early termination on a 1 yr commitment is only about $150.

The opt out he is referring to is the cost of the mover's connection w/o a commitment. The mover's connection is free with a commitment or $99 w/o a commitment. Apparently the cost w/o a commitment has gone up sine April (was still 99$ at that time). Of course the $199 could be a misquote too.

I was saying that $199 to opt out is just crazy. It had to be a misquote. The early termination fee of $12.50 per month for the full 12 months only comes to $150. It doesn't make sense (at least to me, anyway) to pay $200 to opt out of a $150 contract.

Ok. I understand what you were stating now. Sorry Tigers.

Best service I ever had on a DTV installation/upgrade. This was my 5th expirience with various techs and DTV equipment since 1998. (Single LNB, 3LNB, 2x movers program and a AT-9 upgrade.

Appt was for between 8-12 and at 0915 service office called to say he would be along within 15 -20 minutes. Tech was held up by a no show by the individual requiring a service call for his 0800 slot.

He showed up at my home just about exactly when his office said he would and he immediately appologized and explained what happened with his no show. It was a call to a local seasonal camping area and the party could not be located after repeated attempts and his waiting for over 30 minutes.

He surveyed the site and was fully agreeable to the location and method I wanted to employ for hanging the dish. I got the mounting hardware for the patio ready while he ran the coax and put an AU-9 together. He did not mind the assistance and I was able to pick his brain about installing/alingning the slimline.

Only hitch in the whole install was a 5 minute delay for me to drill a new/larger whole in my Home Depot purchased 4x4 mounting brackets. The wholes in the stock piece of galvinized metal did not quite match the footprint of the AU-9 mounting bracket but after 30 seconds in my shop vice and a sheet metal bit in the drill and Bam' -- that dish aint moving...ever.

No hassle about running phone lines or fishing walls to help his bottom line. In fact all consumables are provided to him by his company so he used as many plastic ties, mounting clips, F connectors, etc as were required to do the job the way I wanted it. Not the way the subcontracted "tech of the day" who handled two of my different installs did.

A professional job all the way. Even tried twice to refuse the tip.

If you live in the Cape Cod/Fall River/New Bedford area ask for DirecTec for you're install work. I don't think you will be dissapointed if their other techs are any where near as competant and qualified as this individual was.

Quick question, i am moving this weekend they told me to bring my boxes... i'm moving from an apt to my own house. I only want D* to install the new dish and run the lines down to the basement... should I bring my multiswitch (they never said to) or will they bring another one if I don't have mine? Also will it help if thats all I want D* to do is run wire to the basement then leave me some wire so I can install later in the week?

Thanks

I would take it to be safe and if they bring you another then you will have a extra one so if you ever need it down the road.
