Playing recorded shows with no sat signal

Is this possible? I just moved and I'm working through installation issues and I'd like to watch some recorded shows but every time I try to play one it just freezes when I hit the play button. I spoke with D*tv technical support and they said that if the box can't get a sat signal it won't move on to check the access card and won't let you play anything because of that. Anyone know of a workaround? Much thanks.

Currently there is no workaround. There was a Cutting Edge software release that was supposed to enable that exact ability, but it uh.. didn't work as advertised. Look for it in upcoming releases, but for now you're out of luck.
