One more question about the extra reciever. Could all of this be solved by adding a second dual LNB?

Yes, if you mean installing a second dish.

Each tuner (DTivo/UTV has two--regular receivers have one) needs its own feed. A multiswitch can be used to send multiple feeds from one dish.

But you could just use another dish if you wanted. I could see this being simpler from time to time than running cable throughout a structure.

Sean,

What Ryan says is true. The only way to add another lnb IS to put up another DISH. That will do the trick too, if you don't mind having another dish on your house. Wouldn't it be easier installing the multi-switch though, Sean?

May I give you some advice (going to anyway). Buy a switch that is larger than what you need. If you add receivers or upgrade to DTivo's or somthing like that, it is always good to have extra space on your switch so you don't have to buy a new switch each time you change your configuration. I originally bought a 3X4 multi-switch, but when I added my second UTV receiver, I then needed five outputs, so I had to buy a new switch. I bought a Spaun 2X6 and recently added a fourth receiver for my kid and had an extra open outlet, so I didn't have to buy another switch.

Also, consider if you will need to get reception of the secondary satellites (119º & 110º have some locals, HDTV, and few other channels like NASA, BYU-TV, others). You will probably need a 4 (or 5) input multiswitch which handles the primary and secondary satellite signals. You'd also need four cables from the dish to the switch.

I upgrades to a 4 x 8 switch in anticipation of HDTV reception. Currently I'm only using two inputs on it, though. I do use seven outputs.
