The HR-20 is the "newest" model.
There are two manufacturers of it: PACE & RCA. These are the -700 & -100 in the part number.

The newest model is the -100. What one is better is a personal opinion. Does not really matter what one you get.

The HR20-100 is newer..........and offers a black version. Both look and work the same. The -100 is new enough that there are no CEs for it, however, both are on the same national release 15C. D* has said they will mirror each other in software, etc. I have 2 -700 boxes, but I hear there are some additional audio outputs on the -100. Ventilation is different between the two, the -100 has an external RF antenna, whereas the -700 has an internal one. There has been no true arguement as to whether the -700 or -100 is better.
Don't put to much worry into it. Last week I got a brand new 100, it was defective, so I now have a refurbished 700. Who knows, I may have another 100 in a month or two if this one is a dud as well......
They are interchangable and what you get today may not be what you have tomorrow......

I just had the HR 20-100 installed on Monday, they have a Black one?? can I call and ask them to switch it out? that Silver is UGLY I hate silver components and everything I have is in Classic Black. I could say I had mentioned I Wanted the Black unit when I placed my order and the install went terrible anyways had an AM install time 8 AM but no call nothing and my several calls finally got someone to my home at 6 PM to do the install after telling dtv id cancelle all of my dtv if it was not installed that day as promised, only got 100.00 off future bill for my trouble. The installer still had a "Comcast Installer" sign on his junk minivan and he had NO clue about the setup and just said to me, at 8:30 PM " it looks like you are gonna have some tech time calls to make " Never went over the basics of using the HR20 at all, of course not, he had NO clue. So will they swap it out for a Black unit do you think? Thanks

I've never heard of anyone being successful requesting a black unit. In fact, I hear they are in short supply. I believe you get what they bring...and don't offer you the choice. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
That's not to say you couldn't find a black one for sale somewhere...buy it...and have it activated.

You're right.
They created the black to tease us! :) I believe there was even talk early on that a -700B existed as well although I haven't heard from anyone that has one.
I haven't heard from anyone recently reporting getting a -100B so that run may be done.

I'm getting my HR20 this coming Tues. The installer is supposed to call before he comes. I'll ask if he has the unit in black. All the other components in my home theater are black, so silver stands out like a missing tooth.

I just got one yesterday - from ebay though, probably not what you were talking about.

How much did it run you? Standard price: $199 and it was black? VERY cool.

It was much more than that. If you know how to look these things up on ebay, you can find out exactly how much - I don't want to post that here.
I was able to activate it as an owned receiver.

Congrats.
I just did a lookup on eBay. I wonder how people are able to sell them like that?

Yes, I do wonder where these came from. I was able to get a new, working unit and was able to talk DirecTV into listing it as owned, so all is good for me. There does seem to be very few of these lately, so the supply is definitely drying up.

Sometimes I think there is a container or two hijacked, maybe they just "fell off a truck". :D

What is the date of manufacture? From recollection I think the 100b was made in February.
