View Full Version : Azimuth and Elevation Question

I need to move my 5LNB dish.

Does anyone know the correct azimuth and elevation to target for Zip 02769 (Rehoboth, MA) or where I can look it up? I want to site the new location and make sure all obstructions are clear. I know there are multiple Sat's so the min is the one that most concerns me I think. I am told the center LNB is pointed at 110 is that correct?

The dish is currently on the roof and I am moving it to a 2" pole so I will maintain the skew, azimuth and elevation that it currently has but for survey purposes I want to verify the elevation and azimuth.

Thanks

Tom Davis

Here is the link to the D* site: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/customer/dishPointer.jsp

I think this is a "true north" so you may need to comensate for magnetic north.

Also the 5LNB dish is "centered" on the 101 SAT.

I'm guessing your current receiver is not designed for a 5 LNB dish? If it is, then you get get the information out of your reciever.

Note that the 5-LNB dish is actually aimed at the 101-deg satellite, not the 110-deg satellite like the 3-LNB dishes. But you need the correct tilt settings from a recent Receiver (H20 or HR20).

Here is a great site to find the look angles:

http://www.emantechnology.com/lookangle.asp

For the 99 you have 218.3 True N, 34 elv 232.4 Mag N
For the 101 you have 220.6 True N, 33 elv 234.8 Mag N
For the 103 you have 222.9 True N, 31.9 elv 237 Mag N
For the 110 you have 230.3 True N, 27.9 elv 244.5 Mag N
For the 119 you have 238.8 True N, 22 elv 253 Mag N

Time to brush off those boy scout compass skills. :)

Tweaking question....My dish was just reinstalled(poor HD upgrade installation) and I wasn't able to check signal strenght befor the tech left. Sat 99(HD locals) is peaked at 82-85, too low. After yesterdays light rain I lost the HD locals, SD was fine. Sat 99 went to "0". I don't want to call them back out, which fine adjustment would you try first? the 101 sat is strong, 95-100, all others are quite good, even 103 which I don't need. Thanks

1. Make sure the mount is rock solid.
2. Make sure the mast is dead plumb
3. Using a signal meter do the fine tuning procedure. Unfortunately, many, many techs still do not do this step. There is a link around here somewhere for the video that explains it all.

I installed the mount, you could hang a chain fall from it! It is dead plumb. Solid signal has the video, I have seen it, thought maybe there might be a trick as it is "SOO" close now. I just want the last few points with our monsoon season on us. Thanks

Thanks all.

I am new to D* and I just learned that the Sat data is listed in the data tables.

The dish I have was a good instal so I am confident that if I have a really solid post installation and just move and point it I should be fine.

You can always check by using your receiver no matter where you are. If H20 or HR20 go to Menu>Setting>Setup>Sat>Repeat Setup answer the questions about your install and enter your zip code and the next screen will tell you azimuth, elevation, and tilt.

Until the H20 get a software update, don't believe the numbers. I have two [-600 & -100] and they don't agree..go figure..:)

Another thing the recievers won't do is tell you where each of the sats are.

The Ka satellites should be more sensitive to rain fade, if Ka isn't peaked correctly it will fade faster than Ku(101). Ka is also a higher frequency so it is a shorter wave length and has the potential for more rain fade.:)
