Does Directv have an option like Dish to get local channels only for $5.99 plus a $6.00 access fee (without a basic package)?

No you have to have a basic package.

Good question. You need a package to get Sunday Ticket and you didn't used to. A CSR told me you had to have a programming agreement to get D* at all. But who knows?

Locals used to be five bucks extra, now they are included in all packages. If you cannot get any locals they credit you $3.99

I just wondered because some friends of mine decided to drop Directv altogether and just have their local off air stations. However they can't use their old Directv Tivo to record shows so I thought they could get a locals only package. You'd think Directv would take their $10-12 a month for locals, but I guess not...

Locals thru DISH is $5..DirecTV is $3..A package thru DirecTV without locals is $-3. less.;)

$29.99 is the cheapest either Family or Basico unless you subscribe to an international package. If you do subscribe you just get the international package plus Basic for $9.99 which might be cheaper then $29.99 depending on the package you get but I hope you speak a foreign language. If you are using a Directv Tivo then you also have to pay the $5.99 as well.
