An email I received from a Dish Network CSR before the NHL regular season began mentioned that the NHL Network would be up and running by Oct 20th to all NHL Center Ice subscribers.  I sent a quick message over to them last night to find out if they had heard anything further on this since its still a no show and the response I got back on it today is as follows:

Dear Mr. _____,

Thank you for your email. The NHL Network, on channel 539, will be
available to all NHL Center Ice subscribers when this channel is launched.
The NHL Network shows hockey highlights as well as how to order the NHL
Center Ice package. It is not available at this time. If you have any
further questions, you may call our Customer Service Center at
1-800-333-3474.

.

.

Sincerely,

_________ (name removed)
DISH Network e-Care

So for now it looks like NHL Cool Shots and NHL2Night are the top two shows being regularly aired for hockey fans to get our serious fix.

I don't have Dish Network. I have Direct TV. And I subscribe to the Sports Pack. I was told the NHL Network would be on Channel 740, but still nothing has shown up.

We control the horizontal; we control the vertical; we control the NHL channel.

They should call this service "The Leafs NHL Network" - what a bunch of homers - they must have learned their trade by watching Buffalo Sabres or Bruins home telecasts

Dale Arnold is the absolute worst homer ever for the Bruins!!!! Thank god that Gord Kluzak keeps him somewhat honest and corrects him all the time. Think he may be toning it down a bit this season, but its early still so who knows. Cheevers' eyesight had gotten so bad on the UPN38 telecasts the past season or so that he couldn't even call the right names and numbers shift after shift let alone properly pronounce any players name that wasn't from the US. Bob Neumier does the same thing Gord Kluzak does with Arnold on WEEI battling him on his points every morning always playing the role of devils advocate. Last year Arnold cheered routine Dafoe saves as if they were the save of the year variety every night and reacted in unbelievable way overdramatized horror every time the Bruins came out on the wrong side of a penalty call. It was as if he had just witnessed the falling of the twin towers from ground zero every night, I kid you not.

What is this, the Department of Redundancy Department?

I would hope that NHL Network would be available like it will be on DirecTV, in the Multi Sports Pack. Same goes for NBA.com TV once NBA League Pass is available. It would make that package suddenly worth a LOT more.

Actually, The NHL Network is a Canadian Diginets. Diginets are channels that are available on the cable digital services. They are not subject to OTA or Category 1 requirements. Literally, anyone can come with an idea for 1. Getting cable/satellite providers to carry it is the real buiness challenge. Many of these services are merely content foreign to Canada - such as MSNBC Canada; BBC Kids, TechTv Canada, etc. etc ..adnaseum - or channels showing content repackaged from other services.

However, a few are actually different - The NHL Network is one of them - a 24/7 service

I believe it is owned by TSN (Bell Globemedia) + the NHL.
