View Full Version : I just lost Satellite 101

Is anyone else having problems with satellite 101. All the other satellites (110, 119, and 103) are fine. But on satellite 101 I'm only getting the even transponders and those are only half strength.

All of my receivers (HR20 and 2 SD TIVOs) are acting the same way. All receivers are connected to the same Zinwell ZB68 multiswitch. The multiswitch is hook to a slimline dish.

I swapped the order of the wires on the satellite side of the multiswitch. The symptoms didn't change. I tried swapping the 13V and 18V wires to satellite 101. I also tried swapping that pair of wires with the pair to the 110 satellite. Still no change. That implies to me a problem at the dish or a problem in the multiswitch.

Any thoughts?

Mine is fine.

Maybe your LNB is going bad.

OK. I just bypassed the Zinwell multiswitch. No change. It must be the dish.

Maybe your LNB is going bad.

That's my guess. I go play out there a bit.

What type of dish do you have?

In his first post he said he has a slimline.

Opps!!! I missed that. I was reading it to fast. :sure:

I swapped two of the wires right at the dish. Since this is a slimline dish with a multiswitch built into the LNB assembly, that shouldn't have made any difference. However, I now have about half strength (30s to 40s) on both my odd and even LNBs on the 101 satellite.

So, either the LNB assembly is broken or my dish is slightly out of alignment.

Either way, it's time for me to call out a technition.

Thanks,
Cliff

Is your slim line an eagle aspen? If so the LNB is probably going bad. It could also be a short or "Bad Fitting"at the dish or switch.

Just an update. It turned out to be trees in the way.

The tech adjusted my dish but the signal strength only changed a bit.

I'll have to work with my tree guy to see if he can do some creative pruning.

(I did get the tech to replace a dead ground block on the far end of my run. That was on my list of things to fix. Yippee!)

The original symptom (loss of just even transponders) does not jive with tree obstruction. I suspect that trees have nothing to do with it (trees are the favorite excuse of installers). You probably have a bad LNB assembly. That fact things changed by switching ports on the assembly supports that.

Just a guess, but maybe the bad ground block solved that part.

When he said it was on his "list of things to fix", I assumed he knew it was bad and had already by-passed it. Maybe an invalid assumption.

 I don't know, but we both know the trees wouldn't be the cause of an even/odd problem. :)

I lost a transponder on 101 yesterday on a standard SD box. On my H20 and other standard SD box it was there. A reboot of the box took care of it though.
