View Full Version : 622 Switching to OTA on its own

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but I didn't find anything using the search function.

Over the last few weeks my 622 has occasionally switched itself to an OTA channel. I have changed the remote address four times, thinking a neighbor's remote may have been causing the problem, no help. I have a 301 in the bedroom and the 622 has done this both when the 301 was on and off.

Another thing it has been doing is occasionally bringing up the 'info' screen. The software version is L405, I don't know when the update happened but as I said the problem has been going on for 2 or 3 weeks.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have any timers set to that OTA channel?

Nope, but thanks.

Are you sure you address changed. You saw it different on on the info change? If so, that is a strange one. are you around when this happens? Does it happen right when you are looking at the TV. Have any pets? I would try and see if you can see if there is any external influences when it happens... Keep an eye on it and if nothing presents itself I would try getting the box swapped and see if the issue goes away.

Ron, the 'System Info' screen has reflected the address change each time. I had to dig out the manual to make sure I was doing it right. I have been sitting in front of the set when the channel changes. Its a slow motion thing, 1,2, switch to channel 12 (not always the same channel).

I have a dog, but he prefers the Animal Channel. The remote is sitting on the table when it happens. I pick it up, hit 'Recall' and we're back where we started. Short of any insights, looks like I'll be swapping it out.

Thanks

Could it be a remote key that occasionally gets stuck?

Also, try new batteries (kind of a long shot, but something easy to try).

I don't think its a stuck button, since its not doing a 'Recall' type change. I saw it actually enter the '1' followed by the '2' and switch to OTA channel 12. I'll give the battery change a shot before I call DISH.

Actually, I'd rather give a root canal a shot before I call DISH.

Thanks

You might have a close neighbor interfering with your 622. Both remotes on the same Frequency?

How are you changing the remote IDs?

If you have a neighbor with the same ID and he is interfering with you... then chances are you are also interfering with him... so if you sit back on your couch and change the remote ID via your remote... you may also be changing your neighbor's remote ID simultaneously... in which case you haven't actually accomplished anything.

Just a thought.

Per the manual, I am hitting the 'System Info' button on the receiver, not on the remote, to begin the process. I think (and I could be wrong) I tried to change it by starting out hitting the button on the remote and it didn't work. If indeed its a requirement to start out at the receiver, I would guess that would preclude changing a neighbor's ID in the process.

I've changed the remote batteries and will try a power cord reboot next. Thanks for all the suggestions.

My solution to my problem similar to yours... was to take the UHF remote antenna off my receiver and use the remote in IR mode. Of course that doesn't help you for the 2nd remote or if you want to use the UHF function... but ultimately that solution was how I cured my neighbor interference problem.

I may still be changing their channels, but they can't change mine anymore no matter what!
