Just had my HR20 and new dish installed this morning. I'm impressed so far. I went and bought a Linksys wireless gaming adapter from Wal-Mart, but haven't hooked it up yet. Debating on drilling a hole in the wall that separates the HR20 and the PC and running CAT5 cable from the HR20 to the wireless router. Opinions?

I first attempted to use a wireless USB Linksys adapter, but it didn't work, however when I plugged it in to either of the USB ports, the power light came on, on the Linksys wireless adapter.

What are the USB ports for?
Why are ther dual NICs on the receiver?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg,

The USB ports are for: high end remote control systems (via an RS232 adapter), future DIRECTV2go onto a portable video player, and features to be named later. Or as a power source. :)

But the USB ports can not be used for a network connection, the HR20 does not have drivers to control them.

If you have two network jacks (not all HR20s have two), the top one should be enabled, but bottom one is a cosmetic extra at this point and likely will not be enabled. If you plug a wireless bridge, game adaptor, or hardwire link into the top network jack, you should be able to run the network setup on the info and settings screen.

Cheers,
Tom
