I upgraded to the new slimline dish and the HR20-100 from the 10-250 last Friday for $19. I had a couple of hardware issues:
1. The toslink jack is loose and will not "clip" into place.
2. The HDMI jack has issues - the male end into the HR20 must be held to one side for the picture to show up on the screen. (The cable works fine with the other 10-250).
I called Directv on Friday and they overnighted a "refurb" HR20-700. Is this a problem or should I request a HR20-100?
Thanks.

They work the same. The plus side to having a -700 right now is it gets the new software updates before the -100 as of right now. That will change at some point and they will probably get them at the same time.

It is a little smaller and runs cooler but I don't know about the HD size. I thought they were the same but you may be right.

Whether it really runs cooler is subject to debate. It could be (and probably is, to some extent) the location of the temp sensor. I do think you're correct about the HDD, but I don't think the extra 20 GB is usable for recording. I think you get the same recording time either way.
I have both a -100 and a -700 and prefer the -700, FWIW.
