I recently moved back home with my family. They have an E* Dish system with four receivers. I want to add my receiver to their system. The systems are new so I'm assuming it's a DP quad system. What do I need to do to connect my receiver? Which switch can I go with? Thanx!

Your EASIEST solution would be to put up a 2nd dish.

Don't be sure that it is a DishPro Quad. Check it first. Many areas still have Legacy quads being used. DishPro quads are only a couple of months old. Nevertheless, if it is a DishPro Quad. All you need to do is get a DP34 Switch and connect it to two of the leads from the Dishpro Quad. That will give you another four outputs for a total of Six. If it is a legacy quad, you will need to get two Switch 44s and proper splitters or alternatively replace the Legacy with a DishPro quad and get a DP34 (probably cheaper to go the DishPro).

Thanx, I do have my dish but would rather not put up a second dish. Once my year is up I plan to cancel my account and add the receiver under my family's. That's why I want to get them all connected off 1 dish now. I know my dish is a DP quad, so if their's isn't I can just swap out my LNB. It's been a while since I looked at the wiring coming off the dish. I can't remember how they have it set up. I'll have to check tomorrow.

There's no reason why you can't have a 2nd dish up & be on your family's acct. If your own acct is DHP you will have to return your rcvrs & LNBF if you DC. But nothing would stop you from swapping out the DP QUAD (if that's really what you have) for, say, a DP TWIN. You won't have to send back the dish.

If you only have one rcvr I wouldn't expect you to have a QUAD.

If your folks actually do have a DP QUAD adding the DP34 is the way to go. If they have a legasy QUAD it would be cheaper & easier to use your dish if they don't have a problem with it.

What's the best way to tell if I or my family have a DP quad vs legacy quad or a twin?

Run a "Check switch".

If you can see the dish look for black dp on the LNBF, that will tell you if it is Dish Pro. Look at the piece that mounts into the arm and see if it has 4 threaded fittings to connect cables to, that will be a quad if it only has 2 it is a twin.
