Does Dish have any plans to make a reciever with digitial output that does not have pvr included?

The 4900 and 6000 both have digital optical out (toslink). I think the 5000 also does if you get the dolby digital upgrade for it. Current production receivers? I don't know of any non-PVR receivers in the plans other than the 301.

DD capable receivers

SA Receivers
4000 (adapter required)
5000 (adapter required)
4900
6000
JVC DVHS

-All except for the 6000 HD receiver have been discontinued)

PVRS
Dishplayer 7100/7200 (discontinued)
PVR 501/508
PVR 721

Only current non PVR rumored to roll out is the 322 which will be the same thing as the 301, but can out put to two different tvs at once.

I've also wanted a reciver with optical out, but I don't want to send the money on a PVR when I'm pretty sure I will be a DirecTV customer soon.

How does the 4900 compare with a 301 (EPG, Dish Home, ect...)?

This sentence makes no sense at all.

Why buy a new Dish receiver at all, if you are going to be a DirecTV customer?

Secondly, you said: Does Dish have any plans to make... which of course refers to the future - which is when you are going to be a DirecTV customer.

Something doesn't add up here.

If you "don't want to spend the money", you should get a used 7100 on ebay, which has optical out, but also has 7day no-wait EPG and TV Pause, neither of which are on the 4900. Should be under $100 on ebay (watch out for receivers with account balances, though !).

Basically same reciever. well they look different. 4900 has the optical output and the 301 doesn't

When I said I'm pretty sure I will be a DirecTV customer soon, I meant in a matter of months (most likely after winter).

I subscribe to a number of movie channels that regularly air DD soundtracks. I also have a DD and DTS home theater. I would be willing to spend about $100 to get a receiver with DD out so I could listen to the DD soundtracks for the next few months. I do not want to buy a PVR for $300 or so when I'm not sure I will remain a Dish customer.

I may switch because of locals. I live in a area heavy with trees and hills, and can not get a decent signal for OTA locals even with an outdoor antenna. DirecTV already offers locals in my area. Other than that, I am happy with Dish network.

Secondly, I did NOT say "Does Dish have any plans to make..." Sorry, that was not me. I would like the receiver now. It does me no good if if comes out next year, as I MAY (or may not) be a Dish sub at that time.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. Before I buy a used receiver, If I called in the receiver/smart card number to Dish, would they tell me if it has a balance?
