View Full Version : help with 4700
Ok now I need help. This 4700 has been sitting in my closet for about a year now. I want to hook it up but.... The software on the 4700 is the 647 version and is too old to recognize the sw64 i have. I don't seem to be having any luck getting the new software to download and the folks at DN tech support seem to be, let us say, bamboozled.
Any suggestions?????help!

Well if it cannot see the switch maybe take the reciever to the dish and hook it up direct to the dish500 and let it download for 30 minutes and then bring it back inside. You should be able to hook it up, and then turn it "off" so that it will download.
I was thinking about something like this. what if i powered down the sw64 and then tried the download. would this work?
i am loathe to make any changes that will cause the 501 to not be working but powering down the sw64, which i don't believe the 4700 can currently recognize with the software it has, should not do anything negative to the 501.

Since the 4700 has been out of service for a year, it missed the 47 to 49 upgrade. It can NOT be upgraded now.
are you positive about this??

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case...

The 4700 upgrade to 4900 does not appear to be spooling any longer. E* was spooling 9 mo's after the conversion then went to 3 times a day, and now it appears to have stopped spooling all together as of July 18th. E* ATS says you must request an RMA and they will send you another 4900 with OpenTV. Kind of interesting because this is the 1st time a E* receiver model ceased to exist. Adsman, the 4700 upgrade signature/tag is no longer in the download bit stream.

Hey, but if they'll send you a newer receiver then why not take advantage of it?

Well if they will do that then what a break for the consumer...

E* is offering the trade out for free, less shipping/handling, if the last activiation for that receiver was you. If you bought it off of Ebay, there is a $75 fee for the privledge, unless you activate it, sub to the E* warranty program for $1.99 a mo and wait 30 days to call it in as defective, no shipping/handling charge.
Well. my 4 years of positive experiences with DN CS did not end today. I called and told them that the software was just not updating on the 4700 (and that it appeared they were no longer sending said software upgrade down the satellite) and 1.2.3. they arranged the rma and charged me the 14.95.
new receiver (i am assuming a 4900 by what you all have said) will arrive on wednesday or thursday.
Hot Dog!
