Hello Folks,
I am a newbie here, have been reading posts with interest for a while, but now I am compelled to write!
For the past 4-6 weeks I have been getting relentless calls from some people ( mostly from India/Pakistan) that claim to be calling from Dish Network's billing department, but the caller ID phone numbers show either cell phone numbers or some other numbers but not Dish Network. They claim they can save me money by converting me into a "new" customer by giving me a new customer ID. One person claimed that I just needed to cancel the service in my name and start a new one in my wife's name to get the new customer "bonus" savings!
Many of them claim they are legal and one even said she had my social security number! How scary? The funny thing is, they have all the info except for the fact that I am in the middle of a 18 month contract that I signed up last year when I got the Vip622 with the HD package and South Asian Mega Pack.
Then I called up Dish Network to complain last week. They said they have no information about me qualifying for any new bonus, and the guy wanted to start selling me high speed internet! I tried to explain to him that I am calling to complain about a potential data breach, and explained everything, but nothing registered in his head. I asked to speak to his manager, which he obliged. The manager said that they give data to their "sales partners" and have no control over what the "sales partners" do or promise. He promised to investigate the matter and put my information on the "do not share" list. If anyone else is facing this kind of nonsense, I suggest you call DISH and let them know.
Meanwhile, the annoying calls continue into this week!

It is likely that they are getting the information through a credit card company or any of the other organizations that sell information to marketing companies.

If you get a chance, ask them what your SSN is and if they read it back to you, you've got a bigger problem.

They know that I am a subscriber. They even told me how much my monthly bill was and what packages I was subsrcibed to! Only they don't know about the contract, which expires next year!

They knew about the contract but don't care. They want to make the sale and will lie, lie, lie!

I work with someone who has the Chinese package and he & his wife both went through the same high pressure calls. And the same lies.

www.ceo@dishnetwork.com should be your friend if it is a legitimate fraud instead of DISH actually marketing you. Hope you saved those phone numbers.

As suggested, I wrote to this e-mail address and got a prompt reply that they would follow-up and work to shut down any such annoyances in the future. They assured that my personal info was not at risk. In the meantime I got another call today!

If you get another call, I suggest you inform the person that you're recording the call (whether you are or not). That simple statement may end the harassment.
