View Full Version : getting red light, dont think its a phone line test
The red light came on this morning when I turned on the receiver, but will go off if I turn the receiver off, comes back on when I turn the receiver back on. I have heard that this might signal they are testing my phone line connection to the receiver. I have had this before, but not for this long, it wont go away. I am running the latest ce, so I dont know if I should do a rbr, any thoughts?

I think a reboot via the menu might be an option for you. Before you do, try recording something. It should turn the light yellow. When you stop recording, the light might turn off.

While watching a PPV last night the record light turned red. It would not go off. When I turned the unit on this morning the light was still red. I ran the system test to see if the phone line was ok and the unit locked up half way thru the test. Had to do a RBR to get back to normal. Have not recorded anything on that unit since. SW version 16e.
tried recording something, light stayed red, reset through the menu, and it is off. I havent ordered a pay-per view in quite a while.

the receiver just started with the red light again, flashes, off and on every 30 seconds or so

Has anyone tried to call their home phone when the light is red? I wonder if an incoming call will turn off the red light??
Mine was red this morning after turning on unit. Looked here. Recorded something successfully, all functions normal, decided to menu reset.......red light gone after reset. I am on 16E also. I think this red light needs to be explained by the company.

I'm glad to see this thread as I have a question that relates to the previous posts. I am hoping the forum readers can give me some advice. I've been having trouble with my phone in use light coming on repeatedly for hours at a time at approximately two to five second intervals. When the "in use" light on my phone lights up I pick up the phone and get an earful of computer tones and screeching, a mechanical screeching, like electronic equipment "talking" on the phone line.
This has been happening since Oct of last year. I had been blaming my R 15-300 for it since the R 15 had every other problem. And I had unplugged everything but one phone from my phone line and over the course of a week or two added things back one at a time, the problem was gone, until I plugged the R 15 back in, within five minutes the phone line was engaged twice. So I blamed the R 15. Well now the R 15 is on its way back to D and I found out over the weekend, it's my original HR 20-700 that's engaging the phone line, now that this HR 20 is in my bedroom where I see it all the time and it's now my primary DVR I see the red light come on repeatedly, I pick up my phone, computer tones.
Over and over again. For hours. Also playing Game Lounge causes the unit to pick up the phone line also. I have put in a new phone line, had A T &T out numerous times, changed the DSL filter on the line, relocated the HR 20 to another room and reformatted. Still the HR 20 engages the phone line over and over. I called D and they said the unit had made a successful call to them last week. Also when I run system test everything checks out fine, including the phone line test.
I have just POTS and no voice mail. If that matters. I've talked to D* they think the HR 20 is defective. It was new when I got it and I hate to turn it in for a "refurb" if it may be a common problem. Please let me know what you think. Especially Earl B. and Tom if you read this. Sorry this is so long, thanks for any advice.

My red light comes on every day around 2pm PDT and stays on until I do a menu reset. I am running CE version 0x16e. I logged the problem in the CE Issues thread.
