You will probably be getting your locals by April (possibly sooner) on Dish. This is rumor and I have no facts to back the statement up. :)

Norfolk has been picked up by D*. I get the feeling that E* is purposely going after markets not carried by D* (mostly in largely Pegasus territories) to differentiate themselves and not compete as directly with D*. So, it looks like E* feels like D* has Norfolk covered.

This could be a good thing though, if Dish does not go after locals that DirecTv has, then this would be a good approach to bringing up more local cities, that one system or the other would have the local channels.

How about Charleston/Huntington, WV locals? Anything heard about that? We are DMA #61 and lost of people have very poor reception here and our nickname for our state is the mountain state and we have trees EVERYWHERE so we cant pick up squat in this state unless your on a hill or lucky.

While we're all asking whether our hometown will get locals...

Is there any chance that Augusta, GA/Aiken, SC will ever get locals on E*? Augusta's pretty low on the list (http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:tk9s1gZXYyUC:www.stratuswave.net/~bryan27/tvdma/91-180/augu.html+augusta+ga+dma&hl=en&lr=lang_en%7Clang_de&ie=UTF-8) (#115), but... well, I can hope, can't I?

I hope the FCC and DOJ are happy, they can block the merger all they want but by the Dish and Direct purposefully not going after the same locals outside the top30, there's going to be a monopoly for about 40% of the population anyways with only 60% actually having their locals covered by both DBS companies.

Norfolk and Augusta have not made it on the radar yet. I've not heard or see anything about this market. Tyler Texas is the smallest market I'd heard was coming by spring. And that is only coming to fill a spot. Not enough room on that spot for a larger market.

Without a merger very few if any DMA's smaller then top 40 will have locals from more then one dbs service provider and many dma's will not get locals from anyone except cable. Smaller markets will only get locals from E* under the following conditions:
1. D* does not have locals in dma.
2. E* has room on spotbeam that covers DMA.
3. E* can receive acceptable retransmission agreements for all channels in dma.
4. Week or no cable system or systems in dma.
D* will likely use similar criteria in determining dma's to cary.

Why should DirecTV go after the local markets that is served by the NRTC? That's money in Pegasus pockets.

...of course, one could always get a good OTA antenna if they need the locals that badly(just a thought-when i was a child, that's all we had and we got along just fine...lol)

Gerrrrrrrrr!!!! I am sick of that same old argument. I already have a good ota antenna on a telescopic pole, I still can not receive my local FOX and it is listed on the map as grade "A" for my address and my local FOX will not grant me a waiver. I also would love to have my locals on the epg. I also want to upgrade to a Dish PVR, however many of the shows that I would want to record to a pvr need to be on the satellite to do so. OTA antennas do not meat all of mine and others needs or wants.
