Hi all, I have Dish, and I really love Vh-1 Classic, but lately I've noticed when listening through my theater, the sound quality has become really bad. It's very watery and it never used to be. I'm sure this isn't a problem on my end, I'm just wondering if others of you who this channel and have noticed this lately?
Thanks!
VH-1 Classic has always suffered due to compression on Dish Network's part. It seems that every time I watch that channel it's loaded with pixellation and fuzziness. Keep in mind that the poor sound and picture quality is also caused by the age of the recordings. (especially those 70's videos!)

Yeah, I understand that. It can't be perfect, but the sound used to be much better than it is now. Especially on videos that I have already seen on VH-1 Classic a few months ago, they all sound pretty bad. I just hope it's a temporary problem.

I wonder if they took some bandwidth away for the sports channels that are appearing.

Channel is new to me so I don't have any basis for comparison, however, last night I was flipping through and there was a Loverboy video on. It sounded horrible, like it was going through a Karaoke machine that removes the vocals or it was out of phase. It was just that video so it was VH1's fault and not Dish.

I understand that certain videos will sound bad, it's just becoming more common when it didn't used to be like that, not sure why though. The strange sound comes and goes.
VH1 classic has been trying to fix some of those old videos, they have been using the CD (or some other good source) version of the songs and re-dubbing them.
I noticed this a few times, Nancy Sinatra's "Boots were made for walking" had this treatment done as the original was a pretty hissy mono, now its a pretty clear stereo verison. the only problem it seems is the speed was a bit off, and the lip synch goes a good 1 second off by the end of the video. :)
I, as well, have noticed that the compression artificts on VH1 Classic have been plentiful -- seemingly more so than any of the other channels that I regularly watch. The audio quality, however, seems fine to me, other than those videos that had the poor audio quality to begin with (as addressed above).

Well, I have had Dish for a year. I watch Vh-1 a lot, the artifacts have always been there, as well as some of the bad audio, which use to vary per video. I'm just noticing recently that the audio will sound funny video after video, and then clear up for awhile, then comes back. It didn't use to be that way, and I know it's not on my end. Maybe Vh-1 is having some recent problems, who knows?

You guys remember how bad it was when they first launched this channel? What a joke. I got a kick out of watching Hendrix videos because with his fro, everytime he would move his head, his hair would stay put! It took a few milliseconds to catch up with his head.

I have heard some god awful sound quality coming from VH1 classic only on certain videos. Its like they are playing the same copy of a video as they did when it originally aired on MTV in 1982.
Why can't VH1 just get a better copy of the video from the record company? I'm sure the record labels have masters of these videos in vaults somewhere. Whenever they issue a classic bands music videos to consumers on DVD it sure as heck doesn't sound like it does on VH1 Classic. Neither does the picture quality. Its the year 2002, why are we still showing archaic, 20 year or older video tapes over the air, especially from the leader in music video networks.
And if they are going to re-dub music over the video, at least get the timing right. A CD copy of a song and the warped 20 year old video tape are not going to play at the same speed. Please at least get a CD player with pitch control and spend a little time adjusting it to fit the video.
