Hi -
I have called Dish to ask this question and got the runaround with some incorrect answers - so I thought I will go to the experts.
Currently, I have 1 HDTV and 1 Vip622.
I am moving to a new house (need to get Dish mover).
I will have another 2 HDTVs in the house (bedroom and office), so I will have a total of 3 HDTVs in the house. I wanted to get HD content on all and DVR capabilities. The 2nd output of the Vip622 won't work because it is SD (CSR actually said the vip can output to two HDTVs using the separate outputs - not true!)
So, I thought I should get 2 more Vip622 - but they tell me I can't . I can only get 1 more - if I did that, could the 2nd vip622 communicate with the 1st to share any DVR recorded show (like the Tivo Home Networking feature)? Or are they independent of each other with the recorded shows?
If I got one, then I though about just splitting the TV1 (HD) output with a component cable - will be less than 50ft.
They said that I can get the 2nd for $99.00 (after a $50 mail-in rebate) - isn't that just for new customers? Do I pay an extra $ for the 2nd?
It just seems like a waste to have two TV outputs but only one will be used because it is SD only.
Any ideas will be helpful.
Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, thje CSR was correct. You can output o two HDTVs - one in HD and one in SD OR you can output to two HDTVs in HD - one with HDMI and one with Component, given the runs are not excessively long.

You are currect but the HD output to the 2nd HDTV will mirror what is being viewed on the 1st - correct?

Since this is more of a general getting HD question I moved it into the HD section to get more eyes on it.
I am not up on the Dish Deals so I will let others answer that aspect of the question. As for the CSR being incorrect, Well I am not sure how the question was phrased or the answer but it would only be inaccurate for getting HD to both TVs as an HD input (HD output from the 622). You could feed two HD TVs, but like you indicated one would get an SD input.
As for both communicating. Dish currently does not support this feature. They definitely would be independent of each other for now. Since the 622 does have an Ethernet port that is planned to be used for DishOnline, it is possible that someday they might offer this type of functionality but for now they are separate with the exception of the DishComm feature that allows you to use a share a phone line connection between two 622s.

Correct. but it is an option depending on how you use TV2

Based on what I'm reading, you need a 622 (supports one HDTV and one SD) and two 211's since most of the HD sats only support four tuners. They won't lease you another 622. They'll sell you one for like $600. :sure:
Please don't bother putting two HDTV's on one 622. You will have to use the same remote and see the same image on both TV.
I guess that could work if you just put it on like Treasure or Ultra with no volume as kind of a showpiece. :nono: However, if you want independent full HD. You probably want a different receiver for each TV.
As everyone said--Dish DVR's are independent of one another. You're not sharing shows unless you record them onto DVD.
Hopefully, what we've said makes some sense. :)

I recommend having as many boxes as you have TV viewers in the house. For instance, if you live alone with your wife, you can get away with mirroring a single 622 on two sets and a second 622 on your main set. I live alone and find that a 622 in single mode is more then sufficient to meet my viewing needs on my living room set and bedroom set.

Agree each HD TV should have its own box less complex and better. One 622 and 2ea 211s are good solutions or get 2 622s and get a 211 on EBAY. If you need a DVR in each room then consider waiting for the 722 to come out and then get a 3rd VIP622 on EBAY when it is cheaper. I dont know when the 611 is scheduled to come out (single tv HD DVR) but that also may be a solution. Its always worth a try to email CEO@dishnetwork and as for suggestions a very senior CSR will get back with you and they seem to have more clout than the average CSR.

... most of the HD sats only support four tuners. The Dish lease plans have a limit of 4 tuners. That is a business decision that has nothing to do with the satellites. More tuners can be added to a setup by adding the appropriate switch.
If jkinghome is moving to an area that can see 129, the Dish 1000.2 would be ideal for 3 dual tuner receivers - the lease 622, another leased 622 if he can talk ceo@echostar.com into allowing it (otherwise owned), and an owned 622.

They are now allowing 2 622's for lease on your account. I just called and got my 2nd 622 form a CSR - no supervisor or email to the CEO. The price was $99 after $50 rebate. The CSR I spoke to said that this became effective June 1st.
As a side note, they may be allowing more than 4 tuners on lease, because I also have a 211 on lease (giving me 5 tuners) and the order went through without a problem. Either that, or I got lucky.

If you can live with the limitation of watching the same program on all HDTV's then 1 Vip622 will work. The advantage for me was all TV’s have access to the same recordings, plus no additional recurring monthly charges.
The Vip622 is in the basement feeding 3 HD sets. I bought a component distribution amp that has 4 outputs, it feeds 2 HDTV’s. I use hdmi for another HDTV. I also bought 2 additional RF remotes so each TV has its own RF remote. This setup works fine for me. Additionally all of my HDTV's have a built-in HD OTA tuner so I can watch locals independently of the Vip622.
good luck.
Mike
