View Full Version : Do I "need" to receive 119 programming?
 I did a little research but couldn't find the answer to this one -
Hi - got a quick question if anybody can answer this for me. I was a E* subscriber for a few years and am thinking about going back and getting the Vip622 HD DVR - I previously had the 6000 reciever
I cannot see the 119 sat from my location becuase of LOS issues with a hill and trees. For my 6000 receiver I just used the 110 signal from a single LNB and the 61.5 signal with an SW21. Worked fine....
If I get a new DPP dual LNB with the extra input for the 61.5 sat on a Dish 500 would that work with no signal from the 119? Or would the receiver have a problem on the check switch screen becuase there was no signal?
TIA
You will probably have a problem with lack of programming, most of DISH's programming comes off 119.

If you can't receive 119, I'm not sure I would bother with Dish, since the vast majority of their non-locals programming comes from 119. Exceptions might be some HD, but then you need a VIP receiver to do MPEG4.
I installed one yesterday where they could only get the 110 sat. and they were happy even though they could not get all their programming. Just make sure you can get the channels you want before you do anything.

I believe that the 9 day guide is on 119 so you would only be able to get the 44 hour guide. not sure how the well 622 would work with the shorter guide.
Thanks for all the replies. I had just those 2 satellites before with cable for the majority of the regular channels. I think since I am looking mostly for HD content I will be ok - I believe most of the HD channels are on the 110 and 61.5? I am going to try and convince my buddy with a 622 to let me borrow it for an afternoon and see what happens....
Edit: Oh yeah, and does anybody know if that DPP twin will work with just the 110 on the main LNBF and the 61.5 on the sat in?
Have you tried other avenues for getting a signal from 119?
Does anyone think that having a bigger dish dedicated for 119 help?

It should.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.
As mentioned before, you will be limited to the 44 hour EPG.
Go to the EKB link at the top of this page and look at all the channels at 119° you will not have access to.
See ya

So I hooked it all up yesterday and it took me forever to get the Dish 500 lined up. The elevation listed for my location is 27 - After a good TWO hours it turns out the elevation that worked for me was more around 35! Never took that long to point a dish before...
After the saga with the 500, I didn't have much time to mess with the round dish for 61.5. I installed an adapter for the dish pro LNB to mount to the rectangular arm and put everything back together figuring I could tweak it later.
Turns out I am only receiving signal from the 61.5 on transponder 2 - those 6 channels come in fine, but I get no signal from any other transponder on that sat. None of the VOOM channels for the most part, but also Universal HD and MAX for example. I will try to repoint it this afternoon hopefully but is it possible that's all the problem is? Would I only be getting one transponder if the dish is slightly off target?
FRom your comment about rectangular tube your focal point is off.

Echostar dishes use D tubes.

Thanks - That's what I figured too since the adapter moves the LNB out and up from the original location
Echostar dishes use D tubes.
That's why I had to buy an adapter to go from the rectangular tube to the Dish Pro D LNB. It worked as far as mounting goes, but I think I have to tweak it slightly to get full signal
