Any idea if it will be free? Only available to customers with the digital tier? Etc?

Funny thing is I'm only about four months away from turning in my Cablevision HD DVR. Just have to wait for DirecTV to put up their new satellite and hope that DirecTV starts carrying CW, My9, and PBS in HD ...

The Multichannel News article (http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6454390.html?display=Breaking+News) is much less of an advertisment for VOOM. It also speaks to Cablevision's intention to employ SDV in the near future.

Cablevision Systems said Thursday that it reached a deal with its Voom HD Networks unit to provide 15 of its HD channels to Cablevision’s iO: Interactive Optimum digital customers June 26, boosting its HD lineup to 40 channels.

The Voom package will be part of Cablevision’s free HD service.Unfortunately, their "free HD service" is not entirely free.

My condo pays for Cablevision service so I get the family package without paying anything outside of my common fees to the condo. I do pay extra for the SA8300HD DVR, which I use for HD PBS, CW, and My9.

Excluding premium channels, up until a couple of months ago, I got all HD channels from Cablevision without paying anything extra (other than the DVR): HD broadcast networks, Universal HD, HDNET, TNT-HD, YES-HD, etc.

Then Cablevision introduced two new HD channels: National Geographic HD and Versus GOLF. These channels are only available if you purchase the Digital Tier, which I don't pay for.

When you need to pay for the digital tier to get some HD channels, I would say that Cablevision's "Free HD Service" ... not so free.

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6454390.html?display=Breaking+NewsThat means I won't get the new Voom channels unless I fork over another $9.95 a month to get the digital tier. Ain't gonna happen.

I bet that was a long, protracted negotiating session between Cablevision and their VOOM division.
