View Full Version : 622 missing OTA sub-channels

After an amzingly arduous upgrade from a 942 (3 no-shows by installers!), I seem to have things more or less working, with one relatively minor exception: OTA locals, specifically upper sub-channels.

Two of the OTA networks I'm picking up with the 622 are missing their highest sub-channels. WIS (NBC) is missing the 010-03 sub-channel, and WACH (Fox) is missing the 057-02 sub-channel. Both of those sub-channels were picked up by my 942, and both have always been broadcast 24/7 by their respective networks.

Should I expect this to eventually be resolved by a future firmware upgrade?

It's not a firmware issue. DISH is steadily, but slowly adding more and more of the sub-channel guide data.
You can follow the progress HERE (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/VirtualChannels.html)
If you just had the install done, it is also possible it will take a day or so of updates, to populate the guide fully.

I take it you did a local scan and then selected the channels that you are looking for. If you don't check the boxes, you won't see them in your guide.

Uhh, I believe the poster can not receive the channel at all. He's not referring to the guide. There are channels I can't get either in the Hartford area, even they are being broadcast. Not sure why this is so. TIVO users have similar complaints.

Yeah, I see that...easily confused :sure:
Then, the other suggestion of rescan/check should take care of it.

I wish someone could tell me why someone would even want the subchannels? I intentionally delete all of the subchannels. They are not broadcast in HD and I don't see any good content either.

If you don't like a particular channel than everyone should not like it?
Would you please post the Recording Schedule for the upcoming week so we can all program our DVR's.

You may have already known this had you not summarily deleted subchannels.

Depends on where you are... Besides some sub-channels being good to watch, even in SD... some markets have the HD channels on a sub-channel. In my market PBSHD is 4.2, for instance.

It is now possible to run 2 HD's on 1 OTA channel w/ the new equipment available.

Here's a good example. Live NOAA weather radar was broadcast on a subchannel of channel 8-1 in the Hartford area, though no longer. It is now on 59-2 and I can't tune it no matter what. It doesn't scan and it can't be found by manually inputting it. That is a 622 problem.

most of the local HD here is broadcast on the sub channels.

If the 622 is seeing 59-1 but not seeing 59-2 do you have other receivers that see both (a 211 or 942)? Have you checked the thread for your market over at AVSForum (or our reception forums) to see if other people with other receivers have problems with 59-2?

I had a similar problem with a low bit rate subchannel in my market, 22-3. Except in my case my Samsung receiver failed to tune the signal and my 211 and 622 pulled it in just fine. There are many reports of individual channels and subchannels not working with some receivers yet working with others. Often an adjustment at the station will correct the problem.

Digital TV is still in it's growing pains. Hopefully some day we can reach "perfection" where every receiver receives every channel. At the moment there are just too many options. It is too easy for a station to do something odd and lose viewers.

That is correct. With the 622, I cannot receive subchannels that I was able to receive with the 942.

Moridin,

As James suggested. I would check out the AVSForums to see if others are seeing the same thing and also our OTA support forum. Infact, If there is not a thread for your DMA, start one and if it would be great to get the EPG info you do get with the 622 and note the differences.

That way if others in your area have the issue it is easier to find and discuss. Also is a way to contribute so that others when moving to the 622 can be aware that some are having issues getting these sub channels.
