Hi,

In the process of finishing our attic I though to upgrade the switch and run some extra coax for future proofing. I currently have two Dish boxes, the 622 (single cable home run with a splitter/combiner) and a 211 (single cable home run) to the two Dishes outside on the roof. I have actually not been up to the roof since the install.

The plan is to switch out whatever is out there on the roof with the DPP44 and do another two coax runs to my structured media closet (which distributes the coax throughout the house). The future coaxes will be for any future 211 or 622 that we may add to addition rooms as HDTV sets become cheaper.

1) I found the installation guides here:
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Dish+Network+Installation+Guides.htm

Is there anything particular I should watch out for when installing the switch (besides falling of the roof)?

2) I understand the power inserter should be used with at least one connection. Even though I will add two lines, I won't be hooking them up to anything for a while. Should I use the power inserter with my current 622 to get better signal?

3) Anything else I am not addressing?

Thanks,
George

The power inserter must go on line to port 1 of 44

Thank you. Does my sole 622 have to also be connected to port 1 with the power inserter? Or only the second 622?

The line with the inserter must be hooked up to a receiver no matter how many lines are being used. Your existing 622 or 211 can be used for line 1, does not matter which as you will not see a higher signal on either but should that receiver be unpluged, the signals from the other three lines out of the DPP44 will also be shut down causing no signal to any receiver hooked up to it.

If you live in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area, you might be alert to the local hub manager confiscating the 44 switch from you. They all belong to him, and DISH has no right to be giving his stuff away.

{sarcastic post drubbing DISH's nose in a stupid situation of it's own making}

I will mount the power inserter inside in a dedicated media closet right next to where the wires enter the attic.

Is there a preference as to mounting the DPP44 switch on the roof, or inside the house in the attic?

Thanks,
George

Make sure you use a seperator to the 622. I think they fixed it but at one time there was a problem if you did not, and it means only running one line to it.

Make sure you use a spliter to the 622. I think they fixed it but at one time there was a problem if you did not, and it means only running one line to it.

BAD INFO IT is a separator not splitter, and the 622 will work with 2 lines from a DP 44

BAD INFO It is a DPP44, there is no "DP 44" or "DP44" :uglyhamme

At least the splitter slip-up got fixed

I am going to replace some of the old wiring, in particular probably grandfathered from the Directv 1999 days.

I can get the RG6 Quad Sheild from Home Depot, or order and wait for Belden 7916 wire. The advantage of the Belden wire (besides being Belden) is that it's swept to 3ghz versus 2.2ghz for the Home Depot stuff.

Is there any point to ordering the better wire at this point for running the connection between the two Dishes and the DPP44?

Rest of the house has the Belden wire in place.

Also, can anyone recommend good outdoor-grade compression plugs?

Thanks,
George
