View Full Version : Slip or Skip, what do you like better?
I was a big fan of the Skip and thought I would hate the Slip. But now, after a month or so, I actually like the Slip better. If I overshoot, it is easier to catch and jump back to where I want to be.

I always liked the skip. It was a lot faster and I didn't have to even SEE unbarable commercials. But given some of the other nice features on the HR20, I can live with it. There are other, more pressing omissions on the HR-20 from TiVo that need to be addressed right now.

SKIP was one of the hardest features for me to let go when I came to DTV. When all is said and done, I've learned to love and embrace SLIP.
However, I still miss the ability to SKIP. :)

I would say slip because of the auto correction. With skip you would not be able to use it.

Yes, like the Apple commercials.

Sorry but this is a big NO NO for me.
If I wanted to see [or waste my time] seeing any part of a commercial, I would use the >> button. The slip function is just plain lame after using a true 30 sec jump button of my MCE 2005 system.
Maybe this could be one of those "options" we can pick so those that find some use for this [not me duh] could set it to slip and others [ME for one] could set it to jump the way it should.
Sorry but if there was one TP that sucks for me...this is it.

I liked the SKIP feature but have learned to like SLIP. I understand the reasons why this is not possible anymore. And know that this is the best we will get.

I chose neither. When I just want to get through, I like the skip. But now I can participate in conversations with people about interesting or funny commercials.

I voted slip but only if they fix the time so that when you add more than one you're actually adding 30 second intervals. Right now, 6 slips actually gives you about 3 and a half minutes of slip. Until this gets fixed, I've been using FFWDx3 with autocorrect. I find it works better than slip right now.

Didn't we just have this poll?
Yes, but apparently we have to have 4 polls for everything or they don't count...
Sometimes the amount of polls on here keeps me away...

SKIP, SKIP, SKIP, SKIP!!!!!! I spend more time talking about a show I watched than I do about a commercial I saw. I only want to see commercials during the Super Bowl, where commercials belong!

When Slip was unbearably slow on the HR20........like how the R15 still is, I hated it. But, after the speed improvement, I like slip better.
SKIP. I would rather SKIP through a program than SLIP through it.
30-second-SKIP should be allowed as an alternative to SLIP. After all, we have SKIP-TO-TICK, and what's that doing if not instantly jumping over everything to get to the next tick mark?

Boom!!! Amen!!! Standing applause!!! Down Goes Frazier!!!! If we can skip 15 minutes instantly, whats so evil about wanting to skip 30 lil' ol' seconds instantly?

I wish 30 Second Slip were, well, 30 Second Slip instead of 34 Second Slip. I cannot figure out what DIRECTV gains by not having 30 seconds be 30 seconds.
Also there was that one magical week before Christmas when it took just over 1 second instead of the 1.83 seconds it takes now...
Here is the last poll I can find on this form February:
HR20 Wish List Poll - A true 30 second skip instead of slip (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=70267&highlight=wish+list)

I have no problem with slip. I think the HR20 is SO much better than my Tivo boxes in so many ways - just doesn't matter.

Puts you in the next commercial instead of between commercials.

The poll looks [almost] evenly split. Lets hope there can be an option set either one.
I really hate the slip and want skip, because "slip" is already there with the >> button, but "jump" or skip isn't.
Slip all the way ;)

Sue me, I use it all the time during the NFL Season because, unlike the blind skip, I can see when the ball is snapped. And, I'm not a commercial vampire who turns to dust at the mere sight of an ad. There a few I actually enjoy, especially ones in HD with pretty girls.

Either way is okay with me. I have slip downstairs, and skip upstairs. I do have to say, I have actually stopped and rewound to see certain commercials that caught my eye during the slip. With slip I also find I spend less time pressing the skip back button, because I can see when the commercials end.
But upstairs, skipping is fine, and if slip went away, I'd be fine with that too.
I never had skip I like the slip. I doubt we will see D* give us the skip. Wasn't skip only on pirated boxes with DT* based?

It can't be "only" because Microsoft does it with the media center PC [HD tuner card] and the remote.
If you've used a "true skip", you would know. I see many like the slip [which the >> button does also] but we should be able to select whether we want slip [for those] and skip or JUMP to improve what for some is so LAME to use to get through a commercial.

Didn't we just have this poll?
Seems to me we did.
You had the topic, but no poll.
I did a search before starting this thread and there were several "I want skip" type threads but no polls. I thought since people who are content with what they have wouldn't post "Please keep slip" threads I started the poll.
Skip all the way, if I wanted to watch commercials I would not try to skip or slip or whatever.
Almost two weeks and the poll is nearly a tie. Statistically it probably would be considered a tie since it is so close with such a small sample.
