DirecTV Latin America said it successfully transferred its satellite TV service to a new state-of-the art spacecraft, Galaxy IIIC.

The transfer from Galaxy VIII-i to Galaxy IIIC was concluded at 4:30 a.m. EST Tuesday morning. Subscribers to the DirecTV service in 28 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean had most of their services seamlessly transferred to the new satellite without having to re-point antennas or alter their system, the company said.

Galaxy IIIC, a PanAmSat bird built by Boeing Satellite Systems, is a 702 model spacecraft with 76 transponders in Ku-Band and C-Band, with 28 Ku-Band dedicated exclusively to DirecTV Latin America. The new satellite is co-located with Galaxy VIII-i, which continues to complement the Galaxy IIIC platform.

Galaxy IIIC, launched on June 15 from the Sea Launch Odyssey at the equator in the Pacific Ocean, is located at 95-degrees west longitude.
