Just got a notice my bill was available to view online, so decided to check it out. In the bill is a notice that on August 27th, The Tennis Channel will launch on Channel 217, I guess in time for the US Open. So those waiting for the channel to be on full-time, you can begin the countdown.
August 27th is also the first day of the US Open. :)
I have been counting for what seems like forever  But it will all be worth it in the end  Thanks D

I wonder if they will do for the US Open what they did for the French with the interactive channels selection with several matches to choose from?

I think the only reason why we saw that on D* was because The Tennis Channel was the U.S. cable TV provider of The French Open. Last I knew, didn't USA Network have the U.S. tv cable rights to The U.S. Open?

They had them last year, but D worked with the USA Network to do the interactive :)

Will this be the launch of the SD or HD channel?
Will this be the launch of the SD or HD channel? It has to be SD, as the new HD channels from the new satellite aren't expected to start until mid-September.

But never count out the possibility of a sneak peak a la NGHD or MHD.

But they could bump off a channel or two to make it HD (in theory)? I just didn't know if it was specified.

Last I heard SD in Aug. which has now been confirmed and HD in Dec. for The Tennis Channel. But the HD has NOT been confirmed at least not to my knowledge.

Actually the US Open HD produced by USA was/will be shown on Universal HD (there isn't a USA-HD...yet).

I THINK last years US Open was on Universal HD as USA does not have an HD feed yet.
bwaldron and DCSholtis - you guys have great memories, because I forgot about that! I just remember seeing it in HD and seeing the USA logo, but you're absolutely right ... it was on Universal. Let's hope they work the same deal again this year! :)

Well as I said I didn't have HD last year so I didn't know about it :( But if that is the case I do hope they do the same thing this year

E* has had TTC for some time :grrr: D almost lost me because of that. I had scheduled an E* installation, but no one showed up. And no one at E* seemed to care so I stuck with D :) I'm glad I did now

It is August 27, which is Monday. Channels often don't show up until they are live.
It does show up in the guide on the DirecTV web page.

How ironic that the Tennis Channel is finally on D*, and no matches will be on the channel for a couple of weeks. The real value of the Tennis Channel is to show matches during the week of a tourney that is only being televised on the weekend by ESPN or CBS, but that is not the case during the US Open.
But these next two weeks are great for tennis fans. Tennis in HD on Universal, many other channels on D*, and HD on CBS on the weekends. We go from not very much tennis on to a situation where there is almost too much to watch it all.
Can't wait to see some doubles on the outer courts.
And here is hoping that Blake and Roddick have good runs.
UHD :( Trees still in the way here.

Don't forget the US Open Mix Channels too.
Will The Tennis Channel itself actually start on the 27th? As much as I have always wanted the Channel it seems it would actually be better to start it AFTER the U.S. Open. Or even better to have started it before the U.S. Open during those Tournaments leading up to the U.S. Open.
what programing package is required for the tennis channel??
i currently have TOTAL CHOICE and get channel not purchases message on 217.
i also have the sports pack. but still no tennis channel.
do you choice extra or the old TC+ for this channel??

I think your package is too low for The Tennis Channel. Because it is on now. So sounds like if you want it you will have to upgrade one package--choice extra should do it. If I'm wrong about that, someone please correct me.

it is stupid you need choice extra for the tennis channel, i am sorry but the last time i looked i thought tennis was a sport. i have sports pak and no tennis channel is just stupid. wondering will i get the tennis channel in hd as part of the hd pak or will i need extra?

It is all in how the channel wants to be packaged.
But if you get the Tennis Channel now, you will get the Tennis Channel HD when available.

Agree 100%, if you pay for the sports pack you should get the Tennis Channel. I like Tennis but I'm not going to upgrade packages to get it. So if I don't have the "Extra" package and I have the HD package I still won't get the Tennis Channel when it goes HD in December? That's BS if true.

I'm sorry, but I believe you are correct :( The package was I believe what held up the deal between D and The Tennis Channel in the first place. Tennis is according to studies more popular among women than men while, of course, other sports are more popular among men. The Tennis Channel was afraid women wouldn't buy the sports package just to get tennis so they wanted on a basic package. How the package was decided on I have no idea :nono2:

I'm alive, well, and very happy  I'm just sorry some others posters in this thread aren't happy :(

Well, that's not exactly good news. I wanted the Tennis Channel, but I'm not going to upgrade a package for just one channel I want. Guess I'll have to be happy with ESPN, USA and UHD. :)

Those will treat you great, for the majors, plus NBC and CBS.
However, it's the regular tour events that TTC is so great for, getting to see things we haven't before or more of them.
I'm very happy TTC went with a non-sports package. I don't see anything in the sports pack worth having, so it would have been hard for me, to buy it. I would have probably subbed only part of the year. Now, I automatically got TTC, which is nice.
However, I will say this: TTC should be included, if you sub to sports package too. I agree with you guys on that. No question. Should be if you have either package.

Sorry to say it, but that is just not the way D packages work :( Check the higher package for price and the other channels listed there not just The Tennis Channel. There may be other channels you would like and if you can afford it you may want to upgrade then.

I just checked DirecTV's listings, and the Tennis Channel isn't listed in the Choice Extra package, so is it somewhere else maybe? Or maybe they just haven't updated their listings yet.
