Does anyone know if it is necessary to have a subscription to Web TV for the personal TV to work on a dishplayer? I don't use the internet on my TV at all. Thanks.

No it is not. Very fw people have subbed to Web TV (now MSN TV) and we use the PVR just fine.

Just to be clear in case you didn't know - you don't have to subscribe to WebTV but you do have to have a PTV subscription. This can cost you $10/month but Dish may still be offering it free through at least next June when you activate a new or refurbished Dishplayer from a dealer. I don't think there's anyway around the $10 fee when you buy a used Dishplayer from a third party.
