View Full Version : Whats on 99 and 103 ??
Two simple questions, yet I haven´t found the answer....
1. What channels are currently on KA satellite 99 and satellite 103 besides the locals/regional markets?
2. Will all locals eventually end up in any of those two 99 or 103 KA satellites?
Thanks !

Until the new SATs go up, just the HD locals.
The new SATs will have nationwide HD programs.
OK... so... if my locals are not HD yet and I have the phase III antenna, I have no need to change to the at9 or slimline at this time... right? I´m not missing out on anything.

At the moment, yes. however, there is a new satellite launching to the 103 position that (for now) is scheduled to come online in mid-September. It will carry more national HD channels. By that point, you will probably want to have the at-9 or au-9 (slimline) dish to receive channels from that location...

Miami locals have been up for almost a year and not listed.
An update would be nice.

Concerning these sats (99 and 103)
I don't have any HD locals but I was just curious and this is going to sound like a dumb question so forgive me
Do the HD locals they have now need a BBC converter to recieve

HD locals and all new HD channels will require the BBC converters, you also need to have either an HR20 or an H20 reciever.

No the current HD locals are Ka-hi so they don't need the BBC conversion.
The new SATs will be using Ka-lo which will require the BBC conversion.

Denver HD locals are on the 103 and are not listed.

Note that the Lynsat site is updated by folks like us. If you see that your local channels are missing, there's an email link where you can send them the updated information.

I just had a new HR20 installed with the slimline dish. I live in an area where local HD is not yet available. The installer said that Sats 99 and 103 where not "up" yet, and I said they where up and being used by others for their local HD. My new dish has only 3 lnbs(but room for 5) , and the installer said his "birddog" was not even set up to use the two new sats. Can this be right? Will I now have to have them come out and install two more lnbs when I can get programming on the 2 new sats? Thanks for any help.

If you have a slimline dish you have a 5 LNB dish. It looks like a 3 LNB dish but it is 5. The one LNB is 99, 101, and 103 together. Also there is a SAT at the 99 and 103 spot now and that is what is being used for the HD locals that have already launch. When the new 103 SAT goes up this week there will be two SAT's at the 103 spot and when the second 99 SAT goes up early next year there will be two SAT's at the 99 spot.

Did you check for signal strength on these sats? There may be enough signal from a nearby spotbeam to do the test.

Thanks for the replies. Strange that a 5 LNB dish should have only 3, but.......I did check for signals. I get some transponders to show up on 99 and 103, but the signal strength is zero.

If you look at what you think is only the 101 LNB it actually is 99, 101, and 103.

I think what people were trying to say is that on the 5-lnb slimline dish, three of the LNBs are combined in the same housing so you can't see them, it looks like a single LNB, so it appears you only have three LNBs in total.
Since the only signals being transmitted on the 99 and 103 satellites are HD locals, and they are spotbeamed to specific cities, it's quite possible that in your location you are not even in the edge of any of the spotbeams so you won't see any 99 or 103 signals at all. The nearest city to you with HD locals is probably Minneapolis so you must be at least 250 miles away, even if you are on the state line.
So the first time you will see anything on 103 is when DirecTV10 starts transmitting national HD on 103, in September (assuming the launch goes OK this week). If you don't get decent signals then you will need to call DirecTV and get the tech back to realign your dish. Right now no-one can tell whether your dish is aligned correctly.

Yeah, the birdog has no profiles for 103 and 99.

Update now and get er done as I am afraid if you wait until September when the new channels come on there is going to be a long waiting line why wait?;)
Anyone know which bird the Salt Lake City locals are on?
My slimline was installed about 2 months ago. The installer ran part of the setup on my HR20 but not all of it (I was here and watched him). Just for kicks tonight while I was waiting for the CE download I ran the full setup and tests and it fails on the 99. I get 40-43% on a couple of transponders but that is the highest. I do get my locals in HD just fine though, so I am assuming that my locals are on the 103, but I am also in the same boat of wanting D* to send someone out to realign if necessary before the rush hits. Should I be concerned?

They're all in a line, so if your levels are good, then there shouldn't be any reason the 99 levels won't be when they come on line for you next year.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply!
I won't worry about the 99 for now then...I'll be able to sleep tonight. ;)
