Hello all. It has been a while since I have been on. Three months ago I moved and switched from D* and my HR20 setup to my local cable compnay. I have been contemplating switching back to D* as I have purchased another HDTV (Samsung 5265F) and want to take advantage of the new HD lineup in the fall. Sadly, I called CS to see what kind of deals I could get on switching back to D*. I was suprised to find out that even though I had already paid for my HR20 the first time and it was only 3 months ago, that the best offer I received was the new customer offer for $100 off via mail in rebate. Is this typical? I assumed that D* would openly welcome a former customer back, but it doesn't seem the case.

Honestly, Its pretty good that they will give you the new cust offer. You can of course call back and see if you get something else.

I would call and ask for rentention.

Yes, that is fairly typical... even for people that have been customers 10 years (The $100 off).

I would call be and ask for rentention. Is it really appropriate to go to the retention whip if you're not a DIRECTV customer?

I guess there's a reason that the thread about beating DIRECTV up on HR20 offers is one of the largest in the system.

I never go there at all but it may help.

It seems is continuing to keep the purse strings tight on the goodies. Wether or not that is good or not depends on one's perspective of course.

Why did you switch in the first place?

The triple play deal with the local cable co. saves some $$$. However, I'm not sure when/if they will be increasing their HD content.

Now I think about it some more...

Did you get out of your programming commitment?
When you canceled 3 months ago (since it hasn't been two years since HR20 has been released?)

If they let you out of your contract...
I wouldn't be expecting many favors from even the rentention department.

No, they didn't. I had to pay the 12.XX for each month early that I cancelled.

Well right there you have some grounds to work on, to see if you can some of that money you already paid, to be applied to another HR20...

Note to others:
This is a great case of using the "suspend" option of your DirecTV account, while you want to "stick your toe" in the water from some of these other providers.

Also note to others, do your homework before switching services no matter who your leaving and going too.

Those "Triple PLay" offers look good up front, but ion the long run your bill goes up, and picture quality, and HD offerings go down.
Beware of short term gain for long term pain.
VoIP, and D* win in the end.
