View Full Version : Crazy idea to test for a bad LNB.

I've gone from 119 coming in at around 75 with other sats in the low and mid 90's. 119 then did a up and down signal thing even during the dead of the night. Now I get zero signal from it. The others are still at the same strength. This has all happened in about a month. I have a clear view of the 119 here in South Louisiana than I have of the other birds. After moving the dish endlessly I think I have finally hit the point of insanity.
I'm thinking about taking my old 3lnb apart and hose clamping it on to the arm of the slimline to see if it is the lnb. Will this work?:uglyhamme

If you take your slimline LNB of the arm the Phase 3 will fit in its place. I don't think you will need a hose hose clamp to hold it on. I do think you will have to re-aim you dish because the Phase 3 LNB needs to be aligned to 110 and the slimline line up on 101.

What he said. The Tilt, elevation, and azimuth would all be wrong for a triple lnb.

I'm pretty sure that it won't fit. They are keyed differently. Thats not to say you couldn't force it to fit. Then you have to worry about the focal points. Too much trouble in my opinion.

Thanks to all for your input. I just can't figure this out. I do have trees in my LOS but they are more to the east of the dish and 101, 103, 110 all come in fine with signal strength either close to 90 or above. 103 I can't get in above 85 percent for some reason. I had 119 about a month ago and like I stated in the original post I suddenly started having problems and now nothing. I can hit it in my backyard with the old 3lnb. I'm starting to think about putting up a second dish and running it to all my standard recievers. I've also thought about putting next to my Slimline for a while to see if I can hit 119 but my neighbors would probably have a fit and call the HOA police on me. I'm at my wits end. :bang

Tell the neighbors what you are doing, and that it will be temporary. I don't think they would mind a bit, if you INFORM them what you are doing. Bring a 6pack as a good will gesture :)
Also: Are you saying that you are losing signal at night? How hot is it during the day, and then how cool is it at night? the 119 lnb may be being affected by contraction, and the nature of the 3lnb assembly...you would need to replace it (just the assembly, don't move the dish if its pointed correctly)

To heck with that. Those busy buddies turned me into the HOA with the Slimline and I had to whip out the FCC rules to get them off my back.
No the 119 originally came in at the 90's then dropped to the 50's. After tinkering with it forever I called a local pro. He got it back up to a tolerable 70's signal then after a few weeks it went back down to the 50's. Then it started to go up and down from the 30's to the 50's then nothing.
Call D* and get a service call probably need a replacement slimeline LNB assembly. If it was professionally installed it should be a free replacement.

I bought the slimline and did everything myself. In South Louisiana where would 119 sit? I heard on here that in the east it sits lower and the west higher or vice a versa. What about in the southcentral part of the country?

According to a calculation at satcalculator dot freehostia dot com, for Lafayette, La, 101 is at 196 & 54 degrees, 119 is at 224 & 44. 110 would be between these. BTW, these are NOT the azimuth/elevation for the Slimline, just an indication of the specific satellite.
