Hey Everyone --
Been lurking trying to figure out how to get my setup to be seen on my local net. Wanted to share with folks something I found that was critical to making it work. I went through a ton of trial and error, but I think I figured out at least what one problem is for people having connection problems.
My problem was like most people, as hard as I tried, I couldn't get my PC to see the HR20, nor could my router. Even after my router could see the HR20, my PC still wasn't seeing it under the WMP11 shared media tab. I tried, tried, and tried again to no avail.
Here's what I found was critical --- STATIC IPs --- You have to make sure that your PC, the WGA54G and the HR20 are all using IPs in your routers static range, at least that's the case with the WRT54G. Once I turned off DHCP on my PC and gave it a static IP and then gave the HR20 an IP in the static range --- BINGO, everything started working. (Of course I had to red-button reset the HR20), but that was all that was left that it needed.
** This might be the reason some people say "I just plugged it in and it worked" and those that say "huh?!?!"
So my router has static from 192.168.1.2 -- 200, Then my WGA54G 192.168.1.250, my PC 192.168.1.251, and the HR20 192.168.1.252 -- The other odd thing that might throw people off, is that once you plug the HR20 into the WGA54, at least on my network, I can no longer access the 192.168.1.250 address -- it disappears. If you need to access the web config, unplug the ethernet cable from the WGA54 unplug its power and plug it back in, after it resets it should be accessible via web again -- that's an odd thing.
Also, be sure that UpNP service is on in the router and on the PC.
Anyway, hope that helps some wayward souls!!
