And try scheduling it as close to launch as possible so the guide can be setup.

Tom

The launch and/or description doesn't even appear in the guide. If I go to channel 570, I get a message that it's a "Channel Not Purchased" ?

You have to have faith that at the appointed hour a manual recording will work. :)

You have to set it up as a MANUAL record...

Right now... the channel doesn't exist..

Any idea how long to set the manual timer for?? I know the start would be 8:55 just trying to figure out what the duration might be. Because I don't want to lose my recording on a technicality. :D

That is the toughie! I can't say, but I'm hoping an hour will be safe.

I manually set one hour before plus two hours after-total 3 hours. I don't know if they have a pre-launch countdown to watch, but that is the one hour early, and holds are known to happen, so some time after the scheduled launch time is prudent if you are not there to watch live.

If they keep m the control room broadcast live after launch, it takes at least an hour or more to confirm signals that the sat is in the proper orbit and there may be info later after the actual launch time that would be useful to record.

I have lots of space on the DVR.

The pre-launch stuff starts at T-20. Are you setting this up on an HR20? If so, you might lose the whole recording if the channel is not setup as early as you've started the recording. Seems to be several people still reporting this problem on sports events.

I set mine up to start at 6 PDT (9 eastern) just to give them a few minutes to make sure the channel is there when it tries to record. I don't mind if I miss a few minutes of chit-chat. Just want to see the launch.

You can view it live on the web (and I think rewatch it later-see webcast at bottom of the page), but since I changed to Windows VISTA, I can't seem to make it work (or even movie trailers).
