I have a 301 and a 501 both hooked up to a dish 500 twin lnbf. I just got the 501 on monday, yesterday and today it will loose the picture and say Acquiring Satellite Signal. It will do that anywhere from a few seconds up to 30 min. I checked the 301 and it was playing okay. Do all 501's act like this or should I call dish and get another receiver?

I am on my third 501 in two weeks because of the exact problem you described. Last week I had a technician come out and replace one of my SW21 switchws and all the couplings and its still happening. I just received my latest 501 tonight and am waiting for E* customer service computers to come back online so they can authorize my 501. I will then see if the problem has been fixed. By the way, I hooked up my 4900 where my 501 usually is a couple of weeks ago for about two hours and it never lost a signal.
Try rebooting the PVR501 by holding in the POWER (>) button on the front panel for several seconds. You should do this periodically anyway.
If that doesn't fix it do it again but try the "Memory Dump" first (MENU, 6, 3 then INFO, >, < & reboot from the MD screen.)
If there still isn't a signal lock run another Switch Test from the PD&S screen (MENU, 6, 1, 1.) If the Switch Test fails get the installer back to check the cable & connections and test from the other port of your TWIN.
You could also try temporaily "swapping" the 301 for the 501 to see if the TWIN is the culprit.
