View Full Version : BUCKS OPENER BLACKED OUT IN GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN
Directv blacked out Milwaukee Bucks / Philadelphia opener tonight.
As a subscriber I called Directv who informed me it was Blacked out in the Milwaukee area. I don't live in the Milwaukee area I live
two hours driving time from Milwaukee.
Has blackout restrictions changed since last year.
Any information would be appreciated.
Not seeing the first game of the season is a bummer.
You got cheated; that should not have happened. The game was on UPN 24 in Milwaukee and Comcast in Philly. Direct used the Bucks road feed for League Pass. So it should have only been blacked out in Philly where Comcast had local rights.
I say should because this gets better.
The Cavs-Clippers game was only on WUAB UPN 43 from Cleveland. And it was NOT blacked out in Los Angeles. Weird, huh?
I noticed that half the games on Wed had the road feed and half had the home feed going. I wanted to watch the Nets on YES and they went with Fox Sports South. The Atlanta announcers are a joke, trust me.

If you live in the Milwaukee Bucks "home area", and the game is being carried by an RSN, then you must watch the game on the RSN (NBA LP feed will be blacked out). Note that a teams home area may go way outside its metro area - for instance the Mets / Yankees home area includes all of New York State.
If the game is on an OTA station, NBA LP will be blacked out for 75 miles from wherever the Bucks arena is.
From my map, it looks like you could be close to the edge of that 75-mile blackout zone - which means you must watch the game on the local station.
We are 112 Miles from Milwaukee. I called Directv this morning and was informed that all local games will be blacked out only the 'Out of Market Games' are available on Directv.
I called Directv tonight to inquire if Fox Sports Network would allow me to see a Bucks game Saturday Nite - their answer we have no control over transmission period. According to this CSR Directv is notified one minute before a game is turned on. Have you ever heard of this kind of mumbo jumbo?
The blackout info quoted above is from the Fox Sports Net web site http://directv.fxep.com.
I checked out the blackout info on DirecTV's web site:
http://directvsports.com/Subscriptions/NBALeaguePass/Questions/
which seems to agree with with the CSR told you.
Having said that, this is a really stupid rule. You could be 120, 150, or more miles from Milwaukee, but still in the Bucks "home area". You obviously have no chance of picking up the OTA signal, and if you are outside the Milwaukee DMA DirecTV is not allowed to sell you the local Milwaukee stations. (Dish doesn't even carry Milwaukee locals yet, so their users are really screwed.)
The NBA lifts blackouts if a team isn't televising. Clippers won't televising on opening night and the Cavs were televising. The NBA opened up the Cavs feed to the LA market. 3rd year now that they have done that for Clippers games. :)

Same thing happened last night with the Cavs -Phoenix game.....No local coverage so I got it in the clear from the Phoenix feed..
