Several months ago, the wait list to get 5 LNB HD dish and receiver installed was up to 2 months. What is it these days? Atlanta area.

It is different in every area but I don't think any where is to long right now. Lately I have seen as soon as the next day or as long as a week or 2. But I would think with D10 launching tomorrow night and a lot of the new channels starting in September the waiting list will start to get long again soon. So if you are going to upgrade I would do it very soon.

tkrandall ... I would simply call and ask DirecTV, especially if the wait time is a factor in you upgrading. When I ordered in January, I was originally given a date in APRIL! That was later trimmed to the first week in March. Since then things have improved, but I expect DirecTV to be VERY busy this fall when they start pushing the new HD channels out, so you may want to get in early to avoid the rush.

I placed my upgrade order on May 31 and was installed on June 3rd.

I placed my order June 26 and could have had it installed the 29th, but pushed it off until tomorrow due to the fact I was out of town last weekend, but will be home all this weekend to 'play' with new hardware, and setup my universal remote, and general tweaking, etc.

In my area, it shows 2 weeks out on-line. However, both times I called within the last 6 weeks I was offered an HD install for the next day. I was also able to get my pick of Sat or Sun installs, which used to be hard to get. The CSR thought I was crazy when I scheduled an install for 2 weeks out when the next day was available. :)

If your going to do it, do it soon for a couple of reasons.

D10

&

NFLST promotion

Once both of those are on, the wait times are going to go up considerably.

D* has been relying less on just local installers. They have two levels of what I'll call "super-installers" (I forgot what they actually called them) who move around the country in short and longer term bursts. Seems to be working, when I upgraded my dish a few weeks ago, I could have had it done the next day. Chose a latter day to fit my schedule.

I ordered my HR20 on Friday, June 29 and had it installed by Tuesday, July 3. A contractor came and did it. He was very professional and knew his stuff.

I ordered on 7/2 and on 7/3 they scheduled me for a July 4th install. Sure I was surprised but also happy to have an install on the 4th since the next available date was August 9. I even called back on the 3rd to confirm 'is it really set for July 4th' and they said definitely. Turns out they don't show up on the 4th (I changed my plans to accomodate) and when I called directv they got the installer (Mastec) on the line who told us that all their FL offices were closed. So it appears a system glitch which allowed it to be scheduled on the 4th or Mastec screwed up by not blocking out the day. Either way I'm now waiting over a month to 8/10 (with thoughts of disconnecting the whole thing). Mastec did say that they escalated to the local office but I haven't heard from them and come to find out today that the means nothing more than I'm on a cancellation list for a potential earlier date. Not impressed with the directv/installer relationship.

So, I guess south FL is backed up much more than other areas.

Ordered an upgrade from a HR10-250 on Monday and offered install on Wednesday. Put it off until Saturday because I was going to be out of town. Saturday came and they had no equipment. They blamed it on UPS. They offered Sunday but I postponed to Wednesday the 4th of July. They showed up around 10AM and I'm happy with my HR20 so far.

I ordered last night... they offered me an install date tomorrow, Wednesday, July 11th, but I postponed to Friday, July 13th to give me some extra time to install the pole and finish a little more cable work...

Here in Nashville, I got an HR-20/AT9 last year when the HD locals came online. I already had them OTA; I just wanted the MPEG4 DVR. They originally scheduled it for a week after I ordered, but it was pushed back 2 weeks due to lack of hardware.

They sent some of the best installers I'd ever seen. They were local, and probably the best in town. They were right on time and had it up and running in about 2.5 hours, including moving my old H10 to another room.

Anyone wanting the HR20 now better hurry; the wait times are soon going to be astronomical. (no pun intended!) When all the HD channels get turned on, cable customers are going to flock to D* in droves.

Called last Saturday evening(7-7), they offered me Thursday (7-12), but I pushed it to Saturday so I can be home to supervise everything. Now I just need the TV to come in!

I called yesterday and cannot get an intall until 8/11. I was hoping for something much earlier after reading everyone's results here. This is in Hillsborough, NC.
