Here is some news from Dish Network. This email was sent to dealers, but was also sent to me as well. To protect the dealers interests I have removed some of the Info which only dealers should know.

It includes more details on the NBA Package, plus some new local Cities and channels are announced. :)

Enjoy.

NBA LEAGUE PASS

DISH Network brings you the NBA court action of the National Basketball Association’s League Pass and you can find it on Channels 561 through 571 effective October 29, 2002! We’ve joined with the National Basketball Association to bring new and existing DISH Network subscribers up to 40 out-of-market regular season games each week effective October 29, 2002 through April 16, 2003. This is over 1,000 regular season games not otherwise available in subscribers’ local markets. What a treat! Subscribers will get the most basketball action of the season for less than 18 cents a game! Please note: Playoffs are not included.

· Free preview: From 10/29/02 through 11/11/02 to all DISH Network customers.

Blackout restrictions apply and NBA League Pass may not be available in Hawaii and Alaska. NBA League Pass is non-refundable, non-prorateable and non-transferable once the season begins. If customer disconnects before season is completed, they are still charged for the full package.

· Commercial Pricing:
· The regular season and half season are available to commercial establishments.
· The price for these packages is based on fire occupancy.
· Commercial customers must call the Commercial Customer Service Center at 1-800-454-0843 for details of how to sign-up.

LOCALS UPDATE

· Please note that effective October 31 at 6:00 a.m. ET, the CBS station in Harrisburg (call letters WHP) and the UPN station (call letters WLYH) will be launched to customers. All of the big 4 affiliates (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) will now be available in Harrisburg and the price of the package is now $5.99. Credits will no longer be applied in this market.

· Jacksonville, Florida: DISH Network will launch local programming from the Jacksonville DMA on November 6, 2002. The service is available for $5.99 a month as all major stations will be carried. Individual stations are not sold a la carte and Jacksonville, Florida locals are not available as a Distant Network.

· Las Vegas, Nevada: DISH Network will launch local programming from the Las Vegas DMA on November 7, 2002. At this time, we do not have a retransmission agreement with the Las Vegas NBC. If we are unable to reach an agreement, we will launch without KVBC and will only charge the customer $4.99/mo; the customer’s bill will show $5.99 with $1 credit until we can provide KVBC.

hehe - cool - thought so about Jacksonville and Las Vegas...
But no mention though about Colorado Springs? - are those available already?

and nice to see Harrisburg (re: CBS and UPN)

But about NBA - looks like - 560 is a "dead duck" - only 561-571 are mentioned :)

Darkman, the press release for the NBA League pass mentions that NBA TV will be available as soon as it starts up later this year. This is not NBA.Com that is on DirecTV right now. It'll be a new channel that is starting up "later this season".

http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=dish&script=410&layout=-6&item_id=351431

"DISH Network is also excited to announce a multi-year agreement to expand its carriage of NBA TV when NBA TV begins offering live game coverage later during the 2002-03 NBA season. NBA TV will televise live NBA and WNBA regular season and playoff games, real-time statistics, scores, news, highlights and vintage games."

The NBA will be launching a new NBA TV Channel (I believe in December) this channel will be totally different then the old NBA TV.

If you will remember that CNN/SI went off the air they said that the channel would be back as NBA TV sometime later this year.

I have a feeling this is what we are waiting for.

These cities are nice...but now that the merger is pretty much dead...does anyone have any insight on the Johnstown/Altoona PA Market? We are like market #93 and I feel our chances are dim but in every inquiry with Dish, I get this ominous email that states "with our current capacity, we can do 100 cities, so obvoiusly yours will most likely come soon". Anyone know how soon...or is Dish just blowing smoke? I know they were holding out for the merger...but with that dead, Charlie MUST have a backup plan. Can they really handle 100 cities with the current fleet??? I just want to know the truth as to IF my city is coming? If not...no real biggie but I'd like the truth and all I get is smoke and mirrors.

If you are in the NE and you are in a smaller market, it is unlikely you will get LIL. Your chances are much better in FL, TX, CA, AZ, NM, WA, and OR. This is because there a lot of towns close together in the NE and they all have to share the same spots. Those other states are big, and have fewer markets under the spots.

For example TX has 4 TPs on it, where the North East (eastern NY, RI, CT, MA, VT, and ME) only has 4 TPs for all those states/markets. 2 small markets (past 90) have already been announced for TX (waco-93 and Tyler-109).

CA already has 5 TP turned on it, and has a possibility for 3 or so more to be turned on.

Well this is what I think. If the merger is dead I think that they should at least add the locals that Directv has. It's only fair. My 2nd 1 year agreement ends January and Directv has my locals and I am going to switch unless Dish announces something about my area DMA. Also my mother has dish as well and she will be switching too. That's 2 customer's "Dish listen up!"

Well still no Hartford,CT. My contract will be over in a few months and I may get rid of Dish. I've been with them since 19998. Like my 501 with minor blips but no fee and I like the idea of
a 4 tuner unit without the mirror fees. Directv's
new dish and LNBs are close in size to a dish500 and would't look bad on my roof. Oh well Charlie
gonna loose my and alot more from Connecticut if he doesn't get going.

I agree, CHARLIE ADD CONNECTICUT!

We are getting hit by 4 spot beams I am sure there is enough room for 8 Hartford Stations up there. :)

Same thing here in Rochester NY, Scott. We have 4 beams over us here.

I think you can add CONNECTICUT yourself now - lol :)

I live in Jacksonville. Do I have to call Dish Network tomorrow to tell them I want the locals or will they automatically beam them to me and start billing me for it? Thanks.

Nyte go to Dish's website and click on the icon that lets you check to see if you qualify for locals. Enter your home address and you will then see a screen with a check mark which indicates that you qualify for Jax FL,/ Brunswick Ga locals. I just checked so it does work.

What cities are most likely to get added and which ones not most likely to get added? I am curious because I am in DMA #61 Charleston/Huntington West Virginia and figured that it would not be long until mine is added and Echostar 8 has a spot beam right over us. I am wondering if the odds of having the locals added here is greater due to the spotbeam being over us or if there are a lot of DMA's that have just as good of a chance as I do at getting them.

I don't understand E* at all. I live in New Orleans. We are the #43 DMA. We have 2 professional sports teams (Saints and Hornets). Our locals are carried on DirectTV as of September of this year. EVII has a spot beam on us. EVIII has a spot beam on us. Dish has retransmission consent with Belo, Hearst and Tribune (owners of 3 of the 4 big networks in our area). What is the problem?
