I recently purchased a 721, (which I am thrilled with), and I noticed in the manual that it says that if the program changes more than 24 hours it will not be recorded. Am I correct in assuming that should the program I would like to record shift time slots that the PVR will try to make the adjustment. If this is the case its doesn't seem to be a very usefull feature as a program is unlikely to shift 1 hour. In fact its more likely for it to shift to a new night all together.
If the above is true, can someone explain by what means the PVR is making the adjustment. For example does it see that the program name is different? Does each program have some hidden unique id?
Thanks,
Greylar

I do hope I understand your questions
correctly.
The 721, 508, 501 and other PVR's
manufactured by E* are not able to
adjust should the program you wish to
record change time slots.
A couple of examples. Drew Carey's low
rated program is moving from Monday nights
to Friday nights.
My 501 is set to record Drew every Monday
night at 8 p EST. On Monday, November
4, ABC is running 20/20 in the 8 p timeslot.
The PVR will record that program, unless I
delete the timer.
Example #2: You wish to record "60
Minutes" on Sunday at 7 p. The Jets-
Jags game is running into OT and CBS
does not end its football coverage until
7:15 p. On your recording you will get
15 minutes of NFL football and 45 minutes
of "60 Minutes." You'll miss Andy Rooney!
I know the above is always the case with
the 501. 721 owners, feel free to correct
me!
I SPECIFICALLY remember this being a feature that was barely advertised for the 501 before it's introduction. I can't find it in the manual anywhere right now, but I for SURE remember it.
I also could not understand when or if this feature would ever be useful...for much the same reasons that you specified.
BUT, I did think that there was a great hope for implementation of ful show name-based recording. But, alas, nothing yet...
I also have never seen a show move for less thatn 24 hour...sure they've been delayed or prempted - but the key is the guide never reflected this change.

On page 48 of my manual, about 3/4 of the way down, under the heading Using timers, it says "If a program time changes by more than twenty-four hours an automatic timer will not record the program." I realize this unit doesn't have much AI like Tivo but this seems to indicate that something is going on.

The 501 has the ability to change with the EPG, Period. If you have set a timer from the EPG for 8 pm Monday night that is 1/2 hr long, then a movie is stuck in that timeslot that is 2 hrs, it will record the entire 2 hour movie. I've had this happen before.
I record Mind of the Married Man every week on HBO and it is a 1/2 hr show. For some reason, this past Sunday, the timer changed to 32 minutes.
I have not yet seen a show move to a different time slot. Case in point: The season premiere of Crossing Jordan started at 9:30 pm. Even though I had a weekly timer set for 10:00 pm to record this show, I had to go in and manually alter the timer because it did not catch the change. It seems it will extend a timer, but will not start prior to the set starting time.
